Nerves About Accepting?

So, I just got acceptance email yesterday - Quick Service Food and Beverage for Spring Advantage 2015. It was my second time applying - I applied for Fall 2014 and got denied after the Web Interview.

I'm going to be honest - I applied on a whim. I never expected to make it to the web interview again, let alone to a phone interview, and definitely did not expect an acceptance email. Yes, I got extremely excited when reading it...but I'm extremely apprehensive about accepting - leaving my family and friends for a good six months (At the least), moving a thousand miles away, and starting an independent life.

I know it's normal to be nervous, but I just think I'm completely over thinking it. Any current/past College Program people to help me calm myself? Or maybe other people going through the same thing?

Just remember it is normal and natural to be nervous even scared but spending 6 months leaving a fully independent life is the best thing you can do for yourself. You will make friends on the program and family is always a phone call away.

I left behind my dog and long term live in boyfriend to do my program. I was nervous and sad but also super excited for what experiences I was going to have.

I would accept and then if you decide you don't want to go you can change your mind.

I am the mother of a former CPer. My daughter did two Programs. She has now moved to Orlando and is a part time cast member and full-time 0n-line student. While I don't think this is the path that a lot of CPer's take, there are a lot of current cast members who are former CPer's. My daughter's two roommates are as well.

I don't think you would ever regret participating in the program but I honestly could see 2 or 5 or 10 years from now saying to yourself, "Wow, I should have."

Don't let new opportunities and adventures pass you by.

I was super anxious about going on my program because I'd never been from home for more than a few days (I live at home for college), so I definitely feel you. I never lived on my own before or with roommates either so double anxious.

DO IT. Best 6 months ever, you're going to be upset for the first couple weeks, everyone in my apartment was really nervous and homesickness came up real quick as we were adjusting to new lives. After you start making friends and meeting your coworkers and learning your job you won't even have time to think about home.

You'll always be hanging out at the parks or at work, just skype with your family when you need to, text, or call them. I learned so much about being independent than I ever would have and it made me a lot more comfortable being on my own which is going to help after graduation when I have to move and find a real job. The best thing is that everyone there is going through the same exact thing. After the first couple weeks I was only homesick around December because I was super tired and ready to head home. I made my best friends there and talk to 3 of them every single day.

Thanks everyone for your comments and tips. I officially accepted yesterday morning for the role - start in early February!

Let the countdown begin :yay:

Congratulations! My daughter was nervous too. She has thought about applying since 7th grade. She was going to wait until senior year in college, but decided to apply this year just to have another chance if she didn't make it her first time. It is a huge decision but once she made up her mind she hasn't looked back and is so excited. We also live over 1,000 miles away and she will be traveling and moving in herself. I know a big support for her is the fb page for kids who have applied and or been accepted. She has even found her room mates already. I would join that group if you haven't already.

Congrats on your acceptance!

I have a story similar to yours. I applied very late for spring '14. I didn't get accepted. After that I decided I didn't want to apply anymore because I didn't want to leave my family/friends/boyfriend/ect.. When fall '14 apps came out I got caught up in the excitement and applied on a whim as well as soon as apps dropped. A month later I got accepted into transportation. I went through a lot of shock and surprise. I really wanted to go but was apprehensive about it. I paid the fees and changed my mind about a million times. A month before the program started I decided I wasn't going to accept it. But I put off telling disney until the very last minute. 10 days before the program started I had signed up for classes and gotten an apartment but still didn't feel right about not going. I changed my mind then for the final time and decided I was going to put everything on hold and go.

I'm here at disney now and I can definitely say it was the best decision I've made. Even though I had to leave my home and everyone behind, I knew it was only for a couple of months. I've met some wonderful people, became best friends with my roommates and I love my job working in transportation. My advice is go. Whatever is holding you back will still be there when you get back. My program is half over and it is flying by! This is a big opportunity and you should feel honored that disney chose you! There will be hard days but it will even out and be worth it in the end!
