I tripped 3 weeks ago today on my left foot. I went to the immediate care center, not the ER, to have it looked it. It was the weekend. Xrays said it wasn't broken. I had crutches and an ace bandge to wrap it in. It continued to hurt and I couldn't walk on it, so I made an appt. with an orthopedic who specializes in feet.

I went this morning and had it re Xrayed. Good news is, its NOT broken. I have a 3rd degree sprain to my mid foot. Bad news is..I have severe nerve damage. I have a walking boot/cast on my foot now. It looks like a very hideous snowboot. It weighs about 10 lbs., so I am now hobbling worse than before. I also have a lidoderm patch to put on it for 12 hours of the day and need to take neurontin 100 mg for the first week, 200 mg for the 2nd and 300 mg starting the 3rd week. I go back in 2 weeks to see if it helps. He said there is a big chance I'll have to have surgery on it.

Has anyone experienced nerve damage with a sprained foot??? I can't find anything on the internet about it. I am soooo scared right now.

I have severe nerve damage to my right foot as the result of a broken ankle, followed by DVT, concurrent ruptured discs and sciatica. I call it the Franken-foot. You'll need *** I can't for the life of me remember the name of the test, but it involves needles and electircal current to determine the extent of the nerve damage. I have drop foot. After a year, no one would be able to tell without knowing what to watch for. I wear an ortho device if i need to move quickly - I coach baseball - and it is undetectable if I'm wearing sneakers and socks or boots. I don't wear it with sandles and loafers because I'm vain.

The nerve conduction test is otherwise known as an electromyogram (EMG) test, where they stick needles into the effected area and 'listen' to the nerve passing information, or that how I think of it!

Nerve damage is not nice so hope it gets better for you soon. Not sure having a cast on for too long is good as you really need to try and keep you foot/ankle mobile.

Claire ;)

Thank you!!!! I appreciate the input. Everything I find on the net has to do with diabetes and nerve damage. I feel a little enlightened now.
