Nerve Block Injections?

I really wish, and I was really hoping that this was going to be the fix... and so when my foot felt better for about 6 hours, I thought all was going to be good... it was finally warm.......... but now it's like nothing was done. I know that the doctor said that it might take 2 to feel any better, but I was really hoping! I do have an appt next Friday for the second one, so hopefully that will help it feel somewhat better and for longer.

Silly me, I took the 2 oldest girls in to the doctor for their yearly check ups and while there the doctor tells us that we (the 4 of us, the youngest daughter was with us as well) should get the flu mist, so we all get it and I call my hubby on the way home and he freaks out...............

According to my paper work, I SHOULD NOT GET THE FLU SHOT OR MIST 7 DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER THE NERVE BLOCK. It's all in HUGE print, but somehow I forgot and got it............................. Well, can't do anything about it now!

It's just been one of them days:confused:

Sorry the first set wasn't the fix, but for most people I work with, it's temporary. I'm a PT and work in pain management part time. I would urge you to start your PT asap as you are going through the blocks. The window of time you are pain free (or close to it) is the best time to start therapy and you can get so much more done without pain. They can also give your various modalities (heat, cold, ultrasound, electrical stim) that will do wonders for your pain. Just make sure you don't do any heat treatments for 48 hours after your blocks (or more if your Dr says so) so the medication doesn't spread around too much. Also, the loss of muscle mass in your leg can alter your walking and you may start to feel pain in other areas that are "picking up the slack" of the injured side.

Best of luck:flower3:

I tell you, I can deffently feel the pain, my whole body hurts! My right hip and ankle deffently have been getting the worst of it all!

I go to PT on Monday... and the next block on Friday. I really hope that it's all good, but only time will tell!

Thanks all for all the replys, I need all the info I can get. I hope to get this taken care of, it's driving me crazy!

I've had nerve blocks, epidurals, and radiofrequency rhizotomy (where they actually "burn" the nerve.) I've also had PT, chiropractic, and acupuncture. None of them provided more than a couple of days of relief..
------------------

DD has had all of these things as well - and is still facing more procedures.. None of them have provided any significant relief and some procedures have actually caused new complications..

For some they DO work well though, so I wouldn't "pass" on them based on what I or anyone else says here.. Each person reacts differently..

Good luck! :thumbsup2

I am still having good and bad days...

But today I did get to go to PT, I had called yesterday and told them that ins hadn't approved it yet so I would have to wait. But late yesterday, or eairly today it was approved!

So I went in at 11 am and went over all kinds of info and worked with it some and put me on a TENS machine. Now I have a list of things that will help me at home as well!

I will be going 3 times a week for 4 weeks! And then they will have to approve more if needed!

Thank goodness this is finally being taken care of! I can't wait to feel better and be able to walk w/out cruches!

Thanks again

PT is going well!

I thought I would update to let everyone know that I AM WALKING!!! Ok, it's more of a limp and kind of slow, but I am off the cruches and on my own 2 feet again!

So the block that was to happen tomorrow is on hold. My PT guy wants me to wait a week or 2 since my foot is doing so much better!

Praise God!

Thanks again for all the helpful info!

I am glad to hear you are feeling better.

Have they told you what type of nerve damage you have?

I have CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) which used to be called - RSDS (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome). In plan English, nerve damage in my leg.
I had the nerve blocks about 15 yrs ago and they did provide relief for a small time. Of course they didn't combine it with PT like you are gonna do, but that's another painful story ( Army drs. treating me in boot camp).

I have read up on my type of nerve damage and there really isn't a cure all just stuff that can relieve the pain, which the nerve blocks combined with PT are listed as one.

I hope this treatment will provide the relief you need and it all turns out for the best :grouphug:

I also have CRPS/RSD in my arm and the nerve blocks were given within 6 months of the injury being caused by no PT. Still 5 1/2 years later I am getting periodic pain and manage with tablets and PT, as and whne needed. Nerve blocks may not be all the answer but they were a help to kick start everything else.

drivencrazy - great news that you are walking again :)

Claire ;)

Thanks All!

It is great to be walking... even if it does hurt still!

I went to PT again today, so now I am really hurting again. She worked with my toes - OUCH! And the big one has some problems, but we are working on that to get it taken care of! But now after PT my heel is killing me!

But Like I said, I am walking and it can only get better from here!

:cheer2:
