The only reason I brought this up was b/c I used to teach and I wondered if this is what the assignments look like nowadays. My nephew was really excited to get this teacher this year. Now I wonder how this year will turn out for him.
I know what I was taught about Columbus, but the problem with history is it is retelling of events and unfortunately, the people retelling them are not always reliable. Someone once said that history is told by the victors-if it had been told by the ones who were conquered, it'd be a different story. We'd get a different slant on it. Don't know how true that is, but the books mentioned sound interesting, I'm definitely going to read through them.
D-bro is a very passive individual and although he thought the assignment wasn't appropriate for that age or really, appropriate at all (writing a nasty letter of any kind), he won't do anything about it. My mom thought it was terrible-encouraging hatefulness like that, especially for someone who's been dead for 500 years. She thought that part was ridiculous.
