Nemo Update with Video and Preview Schedule

I think that even to kids it's pretty darned obvious that it isn't really Nemo.

How do they deal with the fact that you can see the guy who sits on top of Crush and sings? His face is never hidden and if you are watching his interactions with Marlin, you're looking at the guy, not the turtle.

OK, those are your opinions, I have mine.

If you haven't seen the show, the puppets are on sticks and generally held above the actors' heads. The puppets are roughly the size of a kite, so they sometimes hide the people, or at least their heads. And the puppets have working mouths that the actors move in synch with the actors' voices.

Dropping them to sing the last few lines isn't going to make me lose sleep or anything. My opinion is that doing so doesn't make the story any deeper - it does however, bring attention to the actors (who deserve it) but at the expense of saying "that wasn't really Nemo." Again, it is merely my opinion that such a high quality show, especially one for so many children, could have found some other way to highlight that ending.

And to that end, I think the comparison to Mickey taking off his head is valid. I know there is someone underneath there - I appreciate their efforts dealing with kids and heat - and I show my appreciation by thanking Mickey and not 'breaking character' while my kids are there. The Nemo show does that break and I just don't see why.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole show, including that part. I can guarantee Disney really thought hard about that drop, and I'm fine if they leave it in (not that it matters :) ). I just thought to myself as I left the theatre "I wouldn't be wishing they dropped the puppets if they hadn't - so why did they?"

My wife teaches theatre, so of course we conferred. She liked the Broadway aspect of that ending and thought that overall that show was fabulous. She found errors I didn't, but that's to be expected. I too thought it was fabulous but again, kind of wondered if Disney wasn't sacrificing too much from the kids aspect for the sake of adult sophistication.

I see what you mean and now that I look back at my comments, it is not fair of me to critisize something that I have not seen in person. We'll have to see if I get to see it next week!! I hope so because all I've been reading is positive reviews!

The theatre was FULL for the show we saw (about noon) but we walked up about 10 mins before and got in somewhere in the middle of the mob.

It was funny - we were near the AK "hub" about 15 mins to showtime. We asked the CM standing next to the big map-board about the show - "when is the Nemo show?" - he kind of shrugged but kept staring at us. "we think it is at noon in the old Tarzan theatre - is that correct?" we asked - "yes" he said, once he realized he wouldn't have to volunteer information. ;) We took off running!

It was a fun little cat and mouse game. Kinda reminded me of booking our Hotel room and trying to get find/get/use codes with the phone reservationists. :)

Absolutely worth seeing. If you don't get misty eyed we'll have to check you to see if you have a soul ;)

Good point about Crush. As for what kids find obvious - I don't know - it's been too long for me :) I just know that Disney goes to extreme lengths to maintain appearances, character, theming, etc that it caught me off guard. I 'spose that is the point.

Funny thing is that I didn't see the guy sitting on Crush until about 1/4 way through the scene - I was looking below

It looks to be a very fun show. I was at AK on Friday (11/10) but there was only one showing at 3 PM. We were leaving AK at that time (and the park was JAMMED!) so were unable to fit it into our schedule. .... have to plan another trip - :teeth:

yeah, that big thing it's mounted on is amazing - and I know I was trying to figure out who was singing since theyv'e got three guys manipulating it.

I totally agree. You can't compare Mickey & Minnie taking their heads off. It is totally different. This is meant to be a Broadway style production. The performers are visible the entire show. You can see them. They talk/sing. If Disney didn't want them visible, then they would have had some of the characters be audio-animatronics like in Festival of the Lion King. In all fairness however, I have not yet seen the show in person.

just so you know.. those are not AA's those are very large puppets. It's okay though it's a common mistake.

I saw the show earlier this week (Nov 6). The 10AM show was fairly empty... but the 12:30 show had a line that wound its way back to the playground in Dinoland. Thankfully we made it in.

The show is much like the Lion King on Broadway and is of very very high quality.

They got a standing ovation from the crowd I saw it with.

It is a MUST MUST MUST see at AK. In fact I went to see the Lion King show later that day in AK - and it was the best performance of that show that I have ever seen. Maybe the competition with Nemo is getting the Lion King cast to kick it up a notch.

I did not think the dropping of the puppets at the end was all that pivotal. I remember thinking "that's odd" when it happened... but it didnt deter my positive thoughts on the show.

My only suggestion to anyone going to see this show... sit in the center section. There are some things you wont be able to see if you sit along the sides.

Saw the show on 11/5. Thought it was quite good. Yes, got teary eyed. I thought it was another great production by Disney.

Wow! I never knew that. I've seen the show about 3 times and I've never noticed it! Well, it's nice to learn something new! :thumbsup2

With all this talk about them putting the puppets at their sides, I have to tell you this is my fav. part of the show! this is when the cast finally gets the attention on them, and only on them, even if it's only for a monment. I must say it brought tears to my eyes! And yes men can also cry at Disney! I thought this show was amasing! The cast is unreal, and when they put down those puppets you realize it taks these great people to make such a great show! This show is by far the best show Disney ever created! When you see it you will know! I never thought such a show could make someone like me cry but it did! I am a huge fan of Disney but at this point in the show I realized Disney is nothing without it's great Cast and all of you Great Guests!
