My son's 3rd birthday is 3 weeks after we return from Disney, so we decided on a Nemo party. He had a Mickey Mouse party for his first birthday and last year he ended up in the ER on his birthday/party day. I want this one to be very special, but not cost too much. We may have it at the local swim center or in our apartment's free movie theater. We could watch the movie on the screen there. I was wanting some ideas for the party. I am planning on doing blue jello with Nemo gummies inside, instead of ice cream. My son has 20+ food allergies. My friend wants to help with the cake. I was thinking about half the cake being chocolate with a cooking crumb topping as sand and then his special allergy friendly (very yummy) yellow cake as the other half. It would have a marshmallow topping with blue food coloring to be the ocean. Kids love goldfish crackers, but my son can't have them so I am not sure about buying those yet. KMart has a nemo pinata. Any other cake, food, or game ideas?

Maybe you could get some plastic "fish" bowls and have a carnival type game where the kids have to throw a small ball into the bowl (placed a slight distance away) and if they get it in they get a prize. At the carnival the prize is a live goldfish but, maybe you could get some packages of gummy fish (or "swedish"fish as they are known here) and the winner gets a package of the gummy fish candy.

We had a Nemo party way back when. I think I made PBJ sandwiches (could be any sandwich really) and cut them out into fish shapes with a fish shaped cookie cutter. I also made mini pizzas in the shape of fish, using that same cookie cutter.

I think I drew Nemo and played Pin the Fin on Nemo. I know I made some type of fishing pole with a magnet on the end and had them fish for paper fish in a small pool, I'm sure I had some goal for that, but it is escaping me at the moment. Pass the parcel works for any party, just use fish wrapping paper and put Nemo stickers in the layers or other little fish themed prizes.

Thanks! I forgot to say the guests will be infants through one 6th grader and their parents.

I usually hit up the local Dollar Tree because they always have lots of Disney stuff. I usually pick a theme and pick up napkins or plates with the actual characters and do tablecloths in complimentary colors.

You should have no trouble this time of year finding clown fish and tropical things. Don't forget bubbles! You could easily pick up ocean animals for decorations for the tables or as goody bags.

We just did Cars for DS's 3rd. I bought a Cars Happy b-day banner and a road with streamers made of Lightning, Mater, and Sally. I used red tablecloths and red plates/cups (that I picked up at a dollar store). I had 6 or 8" - whatever the small ones are - in Cars and I alternated those with small red plates of the same size. I used Cars napkins too. The cake was Cars.

Everything else after that was all the kids. They played in the sandbox mostly. I had balls out for play and bubbles. Everyone went home exhausted.

We did Nemo for ds's 3rd b-day party last year. I posted some pics a while back on the Birthday Party thread. We had alot of fun!

I skipped a cake altogether and just did the jello 'aquariums'. Blue jello in clear, 'wavy' plastic cups with a dollop of Cool Whip and then Nemo fruit snacks on top. The kids thought those were awesome.

Games I bought 2 magnetic fishing game sets at the dollar store. We were hoping to be outside but it was raining. So I put a big towel on the kitchen tile floor, filled a large plastic bowl halfway with water. And then the kids took turns fishing. (I bought 2 sets to have more fish to choose from and also in case a fishing rod broke.) There was water splashed on the floor but it was no big deal. As each child finished they got a Nemo tattoo put on their arm.

We also played 'Find Nemo'. Again, I expected to be outside but we adapted. I had one large Nemo sticker that I put in a snack size baggie. Then I put other Nemo characters in more baggies. The total # equaled the # of kids 'searching'. I hid them throughout the living room. Each child was allowed to search until he/she found ONE bag, then they had to stop. (To allow for the little kiddos to have a fair shot.) The one to find 'Nemo' won a special prize. All the kids got to take home their stickers.

We also played a version of musical chairs with a big blow-up clown fish I got at the dollar store. Music on, pass the fish, music off, whoever is holding the fish is 'out'.

That was it for games.

Since we had it at 10am I didn't serve a meal. We had a little buffet table set up with Nemo themed munchies. I made edible fishing rods with pretzel rods, a piece of thin red licorice tied onto one and and then tied the free end of the licorice around a gummy fish. Then placed them all in a cup. My ds and all the kids went crazy for these.

We also had crocodile 'cheetos' (I forget what brand those were), bowls of Nemo fruit snacks and sharks, fishy crackers, pineapple and mandarin oranges. Oh and popcorn. I served blue kool aid (the unsweetened kind, just lightly sweetened by me).

For decoration I bought several colors of blue crepe paper and hung it so it was straight down to the floor with the pieces right next to each other from our fireplace mantle, our sliding glass door and the railing from the 2nd floor above. (Sunken family room.) With the ceiling fan on low blowing the pieces they would wave slightly...giving the effect of water. It was cute.

Have you seen the glycerin soap in bags. You could buy a plastic nemo and make it look like everyone is bring home their own nemo, but it's actually soap. Google seach, fish in bag soap, great pictures, much cheaper to make yourself then to buy on.line.

I had a Nemo party for my DD when she turned 1. I did a lot of the same things as previous posters. We had hot dogs that I boiled and cut to look like an octupus. I also blew up balloons and hung streamers from the balloons to look like legs, then hung them from the ceiling to look like jellyfish. Then everyone went swimming at our indoor pool around here. It was a lot of fun!

I know another pp mentioned this but I was just at our Dollar Tree last week and they have a TON of Nemo stuff like beach balls, swim goggles, arm swimmies, pencils, crayons, and lots of other things with Nemo and Little Mermaid. Target had a bunch in their dollar spot a few weeks back, maybe yours still has come.
There are a lot of cute ideas already posted, I bet it's gonna be a super-fun party!! :cheer2:

Thanks everyone for the ideas! I am going to try to make his invites after we go to Disney in a week. I am hoping for a good Nemo photo of him from there. Anyone know where the best place to get a good picture to use on the invites? I already had bubbles and whistles to put in the goodie bags, that I had from last year when we had to cancel his party. I think I will just get the pinata and let everyone get candy from there. I also have one of the bathtub bubbles machines that I planned on using. He loves bubbles! If we do the party at the pool, he has Nemo swim trunks from KMart and the Nemo floaties and ring from the Dollar Tree. Although the swim trunks are size 24 months and they are huge on him! Party City had generic Nemo napkins, with two clown fish and a fish that looks like Dory. They were only 99 cents, so I got four packs. They should be marking down their summer stuff soon. Toys R Us had their two Nemo ballons on sale, so I bought them and they told me to come back before the party and the would blow them up for me. I bought a pack of 3 blow up fish for decorations too. I love all the game ideas!

Sounds like a fun party. I have however had trouble with fruit gummy's getting yucky in jello. Kids do not want to eat it!! I would either place them on top of the jello cup or make jello jigglers and then just place the gummy snacks to the side. Much neater too as blue jello cups and 3 year olds can be very interesting!!!

Dole use to make ocean shaped pinapple tidbits the worked well with jello. Have not seen here for a while but you can check your local store.

As for as the Goldfish, if DS can not have them, I would not serve them at his party. DGS has a egg and peanut allergy and while we know he has to see others eat things he can not have, we do not eat things here at home he can not have and I think his own party should have as few limits as possible for him!!

We however only deal with 2 allergies i am sure dealing with 20 is totally different!!!!

I didn't think about the gummies getting yucky in the jello. I was thinking about just doing one big clear bowl of blue jello, and then I can just add the gummies to it when we put it on the plates. Because my son has so many allergies, he is use to eating something different than us. Disney will be the first place that has actually gone out of their way to work with his allergies. I have had places bring me the boxes of food so I can read what is in them, but I just normally prepare and bring his food where ever we go.

I love this idea. I have never been the crafty person, but I should be able to do this. I will have to check out Hobby Lobby and Micheal's for the supplies. Do you think Walmart would have the glycerin soap?

Did anyone have any ideas on where to take the best picture of my son with Nemo or friends at Disney? Some type of statue or backdrop would be fine. I still want to make his invites using the picture, since we will have just gotten back from Disney.
