DIS Dads Nemesis Challenge 2

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
so should I look for a monorail hotel for ease for Shari ??

If you want to pay the money, I'm not going to stop you. But Bambi and her parents were able to drive to Epcot with all 3 kids, hop the monorail and get to MK, see me run, and hop the monorail back to Epcot in plenty of time to see me finish.

I told DW I was going to stay at the Contemporary so I could be on the monorail route. Then she remembered that she's not going with me and told me it was the Motel 6 for me. She wants to know why I haven't found a roommate yet. I told (truthfully) that the only one to offer so far has been a female and all she did was laugh.

looks like I may be traveling solo also. We already have a big trip planned for Disney next year and 2 other vacations to other destinations between now and January 2014. DW decided it would be best for me to go alone. I'm looking at coming in on thurs. or early Friday and leaving Sunday. Doesn't matter to me where we stay. I'm up for anything from BLT to POP. If you're interested let me know.

I know this is a little early, but what does everyone have for hotel plans? We plan to get down there on Wednesday the 8th (DW's birthday is the 9th, and last year I made the mistake of flying down that day, wasting valuable birthday park time.) So our 7 month window for DVC reservations for non-home resort opens on Saturday.

Right now, we have a studio at Saratoga Springs, but I'm thinking about switching it to Bay Lake Tower so I can hop the monorail to Epcot a oh-dark-thirty and the family can sleep in, catch the monorail to MK to watch me breeze through the castle, the catch it again to watch me collapse at the finish line at Epcot.

If BLT is not available, we'll probably switch to Old Key West. It's a bit cheaper on points and seemed to work out pretty well last year.

Well, as I feared (but suspected, and wan't shocked) BLT is all booked up for those dates. I switched to a 1 bedroom at Old Key West so we have a little more room to stretch out.

That might work out then. I will send you a PM.

Plus you can sleep in and walk to the start line!!

Got a race tomorrow. Lighthouse Run 10 Mile. Not sure that I'm as ready as I should be - I had a lot of training interruptions in the past month. Looks like the weather might hold out, though. Race time is 8am and they were calling for thunderstorms all day. Latest forecast says they won't be until afternoon. I'll still finish the race soaking wet, but it will be sweat, not rain.

Hope everyone's training is going well!

Well, that was...wet. Woke up at 5am to the sound of rain hitting the skylights, and watched it rain all morning while I ate breakfast and got ready. Drove downtown to start line and it let up to a light drizzle. The festivities started, and as soon as the singer got to the 2nd line of the national anthem, the clouds opened up and started pouring on us. That only lasted a few minutes, but it was enough to take care of any dry spot that you may still have had on you.
Most of the race alternated between heavy mist and light rain, all the while trying to dodge puddles. Ironically, some of the heaviest rain came down when my playlist was in the middle of "Sunshine Highway" by the Dropkick Murphys. :confused3
But I sloshed through it and finished in 1:52:01 (for a 11:13 minute/mile pace - well off what I wanted to run at, but a finish none the less.) The blisters on my little toes are healing quite nicely and I should be back on the road tonight for another run.

Congrats on a good race Barry! Looks like your well on your way. Hopefully my last round of therapy will get me started. Should be running by the end of the month. Leg feels stronger every day. Almost was able to stay with DS on the basketball court.

I know I said I'd never start running, but all this talk made me decide to at least see what I'm still capable of doing. The last time I ever ran any kind of a distance was when I was in high school and our football coach liked to torture us by making us run the cross country course in pads.

I decided to go for a walk/jog around my woods and on the hill. I made it around the flat section of the woods and no coyotes started chasing me so I said to hell with that hill stuff. Anyway, .8 mi in about 7:55. Maybe one of these days I might try running farther. I doubt it though. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

Well done Barry. Running any kind of distance in the rain is the worst. Great job pushing through it.:thumbsup2 Enjoy the blisters. :scared:

Planting that seed is the first step. Then you begin to realize that you get another Disney trip out of it...besides, it's January, it's not like the crops need tending to...and it would be pretty cool to see some of those backstage areas at Magic Kingdom...hmmmm.....:scratchin

Thanks Paul. They're pretty much healed up this morning. Check back with me after I try to run tonight though...:headache:

So we'll see you at nemesis challenge 2015? :confused3
::yes:::thumbsup2

Well... If things go according to plan (at least the plans in my head that DW doesn't know about yet) we'll likely be at a Disney park on marathon weekend in 2015, it's just going to be the one that already has a functional Carsland.

I'll admit, the backstage parts would be cool. But I tried running, I still don't like it, and I haven't felt compelled to try again. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

Maybe when the cross country kids come over and set their course up on the hillside this summer I might go out there again. But if it is like 90 degrees, forget it. :rotfl2:

so should I look for a monorail hotel for ease for Shari ??
We've done Marathon weekend at Contemp, POR and Poly. Being on the monorail is really nice. For Shari it'd mean should could choose between seeing you at a couple of spots. She could see you at either the contemporary or the TTC and switch to the Poly and see you there before catching the monorail to Epcot to see you at the finish. She could do all those things if she was staying somewhere else too, but it'll take a lot longer to get around.

I had an ear ache all day yesterday, so went to the walk in clinic last night to get it checked out. (Turned out to be an ear infection - no big deal.) So the nurse hooks me up to the automated blood pressure/heart rate machine. It pumps up the cuff and does it's thing. He reads the numbers - 123/65 bp, 55 beats per minute heart rate - and says "wow, those are good numbers! Are you a runner?"

Yes. Yes I am. :thumbsup2

Whoa. You've come a long way Barry. Apparently running more than compensates for a diet of cheese and Old Milwaukee.

OK, looks like no running for me this year as I am still not cleared to go full out.:headache::mad: Still plan to come cheer on those of you running. I start (hopefully) the last round of physical therapy after the 4th week. Maybe in 2015.

Don't tell anyone, but I played softball last week.:rolleyes1

"Compensates"? Are you insinuating that a diet of cheese and Old Milwaukee is not healthy?

Nah. If you just take your bratwurst supplements it's probably fine. Speaking of, what's your brat count up to? I've only gotten 2 so far this summer. I plan on adding to that total this weekend.
