has anyone been there? Any ideas of what else to do in the area? We are looking of going this Aug and just looking for some fun ideas.

thanks!

You can go whitewater rafting on the Youghegeny River. There is a section of river appropriate for any skill level.

You can go shopping at Gabriel Brothers in Uniontown (a bargain hunters paradise).

You can visit Falling Water (Frank Lloyd Wrights home).

Lots of state parks nearby in WV, MD and PA. If you like to hike there's lots of places within an hour or so.

You can rent bikes and bike on a trail that parallels the Youghegheny River.

About 1.5 - 2 hours away is an old, but good amusement park - Kenneywood.

In Pittsburgh, there are some good museums attached to either Carnegie Mellon or the University of Pittsburgh.

What types of things are you looking for?

I've been to Nemacolin twice on family reunion types of trips and always had a great time.

I agree with the rafting. We went as a family and had people as young as 5 and as old as 75 and everyone was able to go.

Falling Water can be nice (it's not really my thing at all but others in my family loved it.

There's Fort Necessity National Battlefield (French and Indian War)

We did rock climbing, spa day, horseback riding, swimming, etc...

A little bit further than Kennywood is also Idlewild Park and Storybook Forest -- great parks if you have littler kids and they also have a water park. We had a great time taking my kids to Storybook Forest when they were younger.

Google maps says 1.5 hrs to Ligonier (where Idlewild/Storybook are) and 1.25 hrs to West Mifflin (where Kennywood is) -- but they're not in the same place - 2 different directions.

Doesn't Nemacolin have a ton of activities to do though -- isn't that the idea - you go there and stay there and do all their "stuff"?

Hi I live about 25 minutes from Nemacolin, I was just there recently for a military function with my stepdad and there is TONS to do!
A little zoo, playground, The Wildside (which is an arcade with a bowling alley and rock wall, a bar, you can also build your own race car for about $50), golf (of course) horse back riding, spa, also a doggie spa. The resort alone has a lot to offer.
But nearby is Ohiopyle, excellent waterfalls, natural waterslides, bike/walking trails. I am closer to Uniontown, not really anything there worth visiting.
Kennywood and Idlewild are great! Idlewild for the little ones, and Kennywood for the bigger kids...
I could go on for pages, PM with any questions and I can help!

I've been to Nemacolin Woodlands Spa & Resort and spent one entire day at their spa with a bunch of my girlfriends. Wow!! It was fantastic!

Never saw much of anything else on the area though.

Nemacolin Woodlands is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. If you don't mind driving a bit, the following are in the area:

Kennywood Park
Idlewild Park
Pittsburgh Zoo
Children's Museum
History Museum
Carnegie Science Center and Sports Works
Fallingwater
Kentuck Knob
Whitewater Rafting

thanks for the replies - we are looking to do some other things after we leave Nemacolin.

Any other ideas?
