I have to vent. I love coming on to this site, because I love Disney to the point where I was starting to question whether or not I was right in the head. I found this site where I could click around, reading about what's new since I was there last, reliving great trips with my family. Of course there are other subjects that come up that I find very informative, and fun to read up on. So here's my beef. People who insist on making snide sarcastic comments. For example, now I know this was a while ago, but there was a woman who wrote that her son was desperate to go on some of the wilder rides at Disney, but was about an inch off the height requirement, and wanted to know what she could do to help him reach them. She got toasted! I respect the fact that you don't want to play with the safety standards, because they are there for a reason, but some comments were very out of line. Another thread I read when I first joined up was about child harnesses. This was a subject I was very interested in, being the proud owner of a brand-new two year old, with very quick legs. I understand that not everyone likes the idea of putting their kids on a "leash". But seriously, questioning peoples abilty to parent their own children because they want them to be safe? So its not everyones idea of how to keep their children from wandering off, it works for some people. I'm not saying agree with it, but respect the fact that there are people who do things differently from you, and don't insult them for it.

So that's my rant. I just hate having to reread, and revise innocent comments I type out because I'm afraid of what someone is going to write back to me, because my opinion isn't worthy of them. I completely respect the fact that everyone is going to have different ideas about everything from A-Z, and I think this would be a pretty boring disscussion forum if they didn't, but if you are reading this, please, the next time you have a difference of opinion with someone, try not to rake them over the coals, no matter what you think about them in your head. Ok? :wave2: Thank you.

mamax2 - your rant is precisely the I stick to the Canadian board these days, as I find people are MUCH nicer here. :goodvibes

:) We do have a rep for being polite! Thanks for listening! :listen:

Very well said - I so agree with you!!!

Denise

Maybe we should rename the Canadian Forum with the "nice" forum

We Canadians are ALWAYS polite! :thumbsup2 :wave2:

To a fault some times eh? We will even apologize for saying sorry. :rotfl2:

I have been flamed for asking what I thought were innocent questions figuring that all the peeps here would help. GRR was ever wrong! I know now that mugs will cause you to catch on fire, parking in the wrong spot will make you get broken limbs, giving suggestions that are different than others are .. well just not tolerated.

BUT hey like you said I still have some sick attraction to this board! I will spend hours on-line. For example check the time stamp here ... I was only walking past to turn off 'puter :lmao:

You just have to learn to ignore these peeps! Some are doing it just to get a reaction and start something.

The Board just ain't what it used to be!

I agree with Scratch. Fanning the flames just adds to the pot :stir: . In an online environment people do not have to be accountable for their actions. Also, there may be some instances where not having the body language to back up your comment makes it come across the wrong way - this has happened to me and I was definately not trying to come across 'snarky'. Some topics are bound to cause :furious: and generally it is easier to just ignore them or read for a chuckle and head shake if you are in the mood. I personally don't give a second thought to what people might think or those that are rude - in the general scheme of things those people really don't matter. :thumbsup2

Some people just like to voice there opinion even if they don't have one. Some people try and get their post counts up and others might just be having a bad day!

flaming people about posts are just a waist of time, and for this reason i too stay on the Canadian side of Disboards, i have seen so many time things get out of hand because of a simple question.

I agree with your post mamax2 and support what you said 100%

Well said!
I love this board for all the helpful advise...and have to remind myself to ignore the rude comments when they are posted - some may not have meant to be as rude as they are.
I don't take any comments personally and I don't mind being corrected when I have posted the wrong information - hey, I need to learn too!
I tend to stick to the Canadian board for all advice and move over to the dvc board for specific advice. Both have great posters that are happy to pass along great advice and suggestions without being "snarky"!

I, too, really only read the Canadian portion of this site, and partly because I don't need to get my BP up when others are rude. I know we can't categorize everyone, as there are a LOT of lovely and very helpful people here, but I just venture where it is generally safer.

You wrote what I thought when I first posted on these boards. I am very careful now about what I post, choosing more often than not to just read and not respond. I was told (in a very unfriendly way) after one of my first posts that I am way too sensitive for the DIS!

If we ignore those that try to :stir: then they wouldn't get the "rise" they are looking for.........ya gotta love the internet! :surfweb: :badpc:

Oh seriously! I know! Just because they want to take out their bad day on you. I really don't think it's over sensitive to take offence to someone who basically questions your intelligence when they don't even know you.

In response to everyone else on this post - I completely agree - CANADIANS ROCK! Canuck Pride! They should open up a Disney park in Canada. It would be the happiest - and politest - place on earth. All in agreement?

I joined this board with the hopes I could get some really valuable Disney planning information. I really wish the board could stay on topic and serve the purpose intended. The internet really brings some very bad apples out of the woodwork who spout irrelevant opinions because no one else in real life will listen to them. Ackowledging them gives them the attention they starve for. I think Canadians are some the most kindest, gracious, intelligent, giving people I know and I believe most people on this board have good honest intentions. Toss the rotten apples and let's carry on with our Disney Day!:thumbsup2

Wow... I haven't been on the WDW boards for awhile. I only visit the Canadian board and the Disneyland boards. I haven't found any negative posters/postings on the DLR boards at all. Maybe that's because they are a smaller community like the Cdn board. :confused3 I guess there are too many posters on the WDW boards and the small minority of bad posters are more apparent.

Don't give up on the boards. :disrocks: I find the DL ones quite helpful, friendly, and easy-going. Maybe it's just an east-coast-American attitude thingy -- or is that trash posting? :rotfl:

I agree. I feel sorry for some of the people sometimes. I wonder why they would take the time to actually comment on a discussion that they don't agree with or even sometimes I've seen a question posted and someone will answer, "nope, cant help ya". why take the time to even post that?! If a group behind me in a line were discussing a topic that I didn't agree with I wouldn't butt in and give my opinion, unless of course it was something harmful to another person. But then I think Id be to scared and just run away! :moped:
I can see some people are really bored at work and hang out here too much(not me though :thumbsup2 ).
Anyway, I just keep thinking to myself, "theres no place like canada, theres no place like canada!!)

I tend to take the negative posters with a grain of salt and have to laugh at some of the strident attitudes on some issues. If I didn't laugh at it I'd have even higher blood pressure. :)

I tend not to post on some issues because of this but do know that sometimes without meaning too a post comes across as snarky when that's not the intent at all.

Cdns do rock though.
