I have over a thousand dollar negative balance on my Chase Visa. This is due to several refunds to my account because if the DirectAir fiasco. When the Chase rep told me they were refunding my charges, i asked him because I knew I would not be making any large purchase. All he said was he "thought" they would send me a check. I didn't want to get into it right then because I had a lot of calls to make to reschedule our trip. Does anyone know what I have to do? TIA

The refund is applied to your card. I believe if you still carry a credit over 30 days, the bank is legally obligated to send you a check. It happenned to me once with chase (it was $200.00). They will send a letter with the check explaining the refund. I think the 30 days vary from state to state, it may be up to 90 days unless you call and request it.

Once your statement closes and shows a negative balance, you should be able to call them or stop in a branch and ask them to issue a refund check. They won't do it before the close in case some charges come through.

When we've had a large credit, we ended up just using it to pay for things we normally would have purchased with cash or check (you can call your power company & have your electric bill put on your CC one time, for example).

Thank you everyone. It would take me months to charge that amount since all my travel plans are paid for.I will call again and ask for a check.:)

i have had this happen multiple times in small amounts on one of my store cards. i round up and pay in store with cash and then i am owed a dollar or two at the end of the statement. it takes 90 days but they do send a check. i am sure they are obligated to fork it over once the billing cycle is over so i would just call. if they give you a hard time i would just check state/consumer laws before calling back again.
