I guess I come back to find 2 negatives.
1. Now mine is running sooooooooooo slow! The slowest it has ever been.
2. No politics or religion? I just don't get it. So we can't discuss prop 8, or our commitment ceremonies/weddings, gay days.....what can we discuss? I guess I see no point in banning these things. If someone couldn't handle them then why would they open the thread to begin with?

I'm with you. If this is an improvement, I'd hate to see a sabotage. The boards are ridiculously slow.

I'll try to stop by sometime when it doesn't take 21 minutes for me to bring up the boards, this page and this reply box.

Unfortunately, we can all thank the Community Board for this one. There have been a lot of problems over there, which have made these changes necessary. The DIS is one of many Disney oriented messageboards that I post and lurk on and up until yesterday, the DIS was the only one that allowed those sorts of topics to be discussed. Because these topics tend to spark debates and end up with people having their feelings hurt, it tends to create a lot more headaches than it's worth for any messageboard that is attempting to be a source of information and remain family friendly. Basically, the DIS powers that be decided that enough was enough and the rules came into line with what other Disney oriented messageboards allow. There is a sitewide ban on these topics. It certainly more directly affects our board, just as it does the CB, the Camping sub-board, all of the other boards that have a more social nature, and in some ways, all of those that don't have a social nature too.

We must attempt to follow these new guidelines. There are lots of gray areas in these new guidelines, so don't worry, it's going to take some time before anyone gets anything more than a PM warning, unless someone goes way over the top with some sort of grand in your face statement making. Just play by the usual rules here on this board and I think you will be ok.

Sorry but if someone posting on a board actually gets you that upset I think you have other problems. You would think that this site generates money by how many people and hit it gets....... As a business person, I think it a really stupid move. Lately all i have witness is people leaving.

Seriously, I don't think that any of our usual posters are going to experience much in the way of corrective guidance from Mike or me. I think our board averaged maybe 1 political/religious post for every 2 pages of threads posted. Our board has had worse debates over who sang the best version of "At Last" than it ever has had over politics or religion. Again, I don't think that you are going to notice much difference on this board.

I have already seen posts on the CB that are asking "What about the insert name here board?" so before they get to us, I am taking action.
I have locked the two existing politically oriented threads that were on the first page of our board. Neither conversation was even remotely out of hand. However, for the time being, I think it wise to remove any content that tempts visitors from other parts of the DIS to stir the pot. I do so in an effort to keep the peace. I love our community too much to allow us to become a target based on the fact that a lot of CB'ers are mad right now. Thankfully, this too shall pass.

I understand why the mods did what they did, but I tend to agree with some of you guys in that it seems like a grandiose plan which is targeted at everyone in order to solve a problem which was caused by only a few.

I'm overly opinionated tonight....and that's why I'm going to stop there.

I did not realize this thread got hijacked so quickly and thus I didn't read the post by our wonderful moderator and the general feeling people seem to have on this issue. I posted my viewpoints in another thread and please understand I am not upset at anyone for locking it, as I understand(and even before reading this topic, I understood) what the mods are trying to do.

In the end I guess it's up to the mods of each board to determine what is allowed and what isn't. I just think it's stupid to apply a general rule to a broad audience and expect it to hold up.
