Just need a friendly ear

As most of you know we cancelled our march trip, rebooked it for july to make it a real family holiday, my 14 and 19 year old sons are both coming, so we've a week booked, planned trips into paris, the big cat reserve, val d'europe etc.

6 weeks my husband came home from work parked his motorbike around the back of our house in our enclosed garden with gates in fact, came abck around the front of the house, opened the post, went to the loo, opened the back door, bike was gone, within 15 minutes of him being home the police had been and gone looking for the bike but nothing, we're still waiting on the insurance and OH is getting himself more and more stressed, to the point where he thinks they're going to refuse to pay out, he didn't have the alarm on, steering lock, disc lock and immobilisers were, but the thinks the'll use this to wriggle out of paying, he's got to have a reliable bike for work, so if they don't pay we've got to find a couple of grand and any spending money for the trip is seriously reduced, well non existant really.

On top of that my mother in law has had her op to remove a tumour and kidney cancelled twice and now been told today end of June and to expect to be in hospital for 2 weeks and we were due to fly on the 10th July. I can't see our travel insurance paying out for us to cancel and rebook for that reason.

I know I must sound extremely selfish but I'm feeling really sorry for myself at the moment :sad1:

have a hug Jill :grouphug:.
Might your MIL's operation be put back again, further than end of June?
And fingers crossed your OH gets good news from his insurance company very soon.

It's always so frustrating when everything seems to go wrong at the same time...and just in time for a planned Disney trip no less. :sad2:

Sending good vibes your way that all works out! :goodvibes

Sorry to hear this. That's the problem of booking holidays, you never know what's going to happen nearer the time.

I hope you get the bike sorted out and that your MIL's operation goes ok. It may well get put back again - maybe your relatives would pitch in whilst she's in hospital to let you enjoy your holiday?

Hope it all gets sorted :goodvibes

Oh I'm so sorry for you and it is hardly selfish to be worrying about your poor husband's stress and MIL's operation. It's even more horrible to think that someone must have been watching and seen your DH put the bike away if it was taken so quickly. Is the alarm activation an actual requirement on the insurance? If not he should be OK as everything else was done and it was in an enclosed garden.

I'm sure you want your MIL to have her op as soon as possible so delaying it electively may not be an option but end of June may just give you a couple of weeks before you leave or as Ms Poppins says, perhaps there are others who could help out when she gets out?

It's really unfair when everything seems to conspire against you but with a little luck it may all come right and you know that everyone on here is sending positive vibes. I'm certainly adding mine. Good luck! :goodvibes

pixiedust: Sending you some Pixie Dust Jill and hoping you get everything sorted out. Until then, here's a hug  and a flower :flower3:

Remember that everything happens for a reason, even if it seems at the time as though it is only to pee you off! ;)

Sending you tons of pixie dust Jill - think it's about time your luck changes, I'll be thinking of you.

Fingers crossed your luck changes and everything gets sorted so you can have your holiday

JIll, sending you both  and pixiedust:

You're not selfish at all for feeling down about this. I totally know where you're coming from - had horrible news about both my mum and one of my dogs last week, and it made it all the worse coming on top of losing my eldest dog only two months ago.

Fingers crossed that the insurers pay out soon for the bike and I really hope they catch the lowlife that took it.

Has your DH got siblings or other relatives nearby? Or is there anyone else who can be around for your MIL? I know if she's in hospital (or recovering from the op) whilst you're away you're still going to worry about her and not enjoy your holiday as much as you would have done otherwise but I'm sure the last thing she'd want to hear is that you're thinking of cancelling. We had to have this conversation last week and it's not an easy one but my mum is insistent we go on our holiday whatever. Luckily I've got a sister who can be around if need be but it's still an extremely difficult decision.

Hope everything turns out okay, sending best wishes from DLP.

Ah Jill thats a bad run of luck.
I hope everything is resolved asap and that your MIL makes a speedy recovery

Hope everything works out for you and the insurance pays out soon.

I cried when I read your posts, thankyou - you're all stars

Feeling a bit better now, just when I heard about mum in law too, it felt like someone is conspiring against us. We wouldn't want her to cancel the op again, been waiting since christmas when we found out the size of the tumour, then she had a heart attack and this is why the op's been cancelled, having to be advised by cardiologist as to when's safe, so no guarantee that she won't be cancelled again. Rob has a sister who only lives 15 miles away, but we are just around the corner from her, so we pop in, the boys call in on their way home from school/college, she's an extremely independent lady and it' s our way of keeping tabs on her.

re: Insurance, Rob spoke to them yesterday firstly to be told it's been referred to underwriters because of the alarm issue, then a little later to be told actually it hasn't and might not be - so we're no better off, but he is feeling a bit more positive. We're still expecting the worse and maybe (hopefully not) contacting the Ombudsman, (thankyou Ann Robinson for last night's watchdog) if it does go pear shaped.

Having a Pizza and Popcorn evening at home with my eldest tonight, we've been waiting so long for Wreck It Ralph to come onto the Disney channel. :)

Glad your feeling a bit better luvvie,it can only get better!!
Stay positive and keep your chin up.
