We really like POFQ and pay almost $500 more for our 8 night trip to stay there instead of a value resort. We really like how quiet POFQ is compared to the value resorts that we have stayed at. Anyway, when I look at the price of a standard room at a deluxe it would cost us $1800 more for the 8 night stay than POFQ! :scared1::scared1:
I would love to try Poly or Contemporary, but we would have to skip a year to save up enough to do so. That extra $1800 is half of what we spend for our entire trip.
Is it really worth it to miss a year over it? Anyone know of any really good discounts for deluxe? We go every year in June.
Thanks :goodvibes

Your time of year is the problem. However, look into renting points for next year. You can get a room at Bay Lake Tower using points and save off the rack rate. Usually, the cost of renting points works out to be the cost of renting a moderate at rack rate.

I'm in the same boat. We go every other year already, and next time our youngest will be 3, so we will officially be a family of 5. I know I can stay at a family suite, but I feel like I have plenty of stays at a FS in my future and would LOVE to stay on the monorail while the kids are small enough to really enjoy that. I need a discount to do, either free dining or a % off the room rate, would be great. We are going to drive next time, so the money we are saving on airfare will go towards the upgrade to deluxe! Planning on a November 2012 trip to see the Christmas decorations, but miss the Christmas crowds!

It's hard to justify that $1800 when you've been happy staying at POFQ! And it really is up to you on whether you want to skip a year to pay for the difference or not. I admit that once I tried a deluxe, I did not want to 'go back' BUT the moderates are GREAT! If it was a choice in going to Disney for a moderate or not going at all, I would definitely go with a moderate resort.

And the reason I will pay the extra money are the following reasons:

- Bathroom that is behind a door. I don't like the sinks that are out and about in the moderates. I know that some places have added a curtain and that is good, but it won't muffle the sound of a hair dryer like a door. And there are deluxes that have the sinks outside the toilet/shower area so I check first on that! I don't like the Beach Club because of that.

- Rooms are larger. Especially at the Poly, that huge room is great! We like the extra daybed in addition to the two queen beds. And then you still have a table and chairs and another cushy chair. Lots of room to spread out.

- Rooms are accessible from inside hallways. While it is not necessarily true, I do 'feel' safer in these types of rooms.

- Transportation. The deluxes offer some unique types of transportation. I know there are exceptions (like Port Orleans boat to DTD or Animal Kingdom only have buses) but the resorts I like to stay at are either walking distance to a park, on the monorail, or have a boat ride.

- Dining options. I do NOT like to go to different hotels for meals if I have to take a minimum of 2 buses to get there. I prefer my resort to have lots of great dining options including table service. And many of the deluxe resorts are in walking distance or monorail distance to another resort so their restaurants are also easily accessible.

- Extras. Movie on the beach, health clubs/spas, dinner shows, etc.

- Pools. The pools have slides, towels at the pools, and nice theming. I know that many of the moderates also have these things too!

So - is that worth $1800 for you? Only you can decide! Good luck!

Thank you for the advice everyone. Tinkerbellie thank you for all of the detailed info!

Have you considered WL or AKL for a deluxe? We've stay at WL twice and AKL once and, IMO, they are great deluxe resorts for the price :thumbsup2. Granted, you're not on the monorail like the Poly or CR, but they have alot to offer as far as dining options and slightly larger rooms ;). Our stay at AKL was great, but we prefer the WL as the MK area is our favorite and we love taking the boat to MK as well as to the CR for dining/shopping :). For us, we would skip a year to be able to stay at the Poly......but I know there a lot of people who wouldn't. If you love POFQ and don't really want to skip a year to stay at the Poly, I see no reason not to stay at POFQ again and save the $1800 :wizard:.

Are you locked into June? I know it gets hotter and more humid as the summer progresses, but Value II season for deluxe resorts starts in mid July. We went in June this year (free dining) but are going in July next year because the rates are lower.

If you have AAA, you can get a room discount as well. For deluxes it's usually about 10-15%, I think.

But all that said, if you'd be happy at POFQ, and if staying there allows you to go every year, well...There's not a dang thing wrong with that!! :)

If you have friends in the travel industry they get all kinds of great discounts. When we travel with our airline friends, we get screaming good deals on hotel rooms.

Don't forget the DVC villas. Pop over to the DVC threads on the boards and read up... I wish someone had told me about them long ago. Keep an eye out and you can find good owners looking to rent out their points which are about to expire & you can get an awesome trip for about the price of a mod. resort. (we really liked POR too)

Yup, I made buying in a goal and bought in back in 2008 :) but I'm certainly not out to promote sales... I think most everyone should rent first to see if it's their style vacation. I did so twice (OKW/BWV & AKV/VWL)
