My friends DD is away at school, she lives in one of those apartment setting,s where each person has their own room and bathroom, but share a common area, kitchen, living and dinning. Sunday night my friends DD went home after work to find the apt. dark, she said when she opened the door she knew something was wrong, as they always leave on a lamp in the living area. So she stopped, and went down to the desk, and they called campus security, by then 2 of her other roommates where arriving home the 4th girl was still at work. When Security went in, they had been robbed. All of the bedrooms, doors were opened, kicked in and rooms trashed. My friends DD lost her lap top, printer, small TV, small lock box luckily there was nothing in it as she had her purse with her, normally she stores her purse, credit cards and tips in there. Each of the other rooms was hit and basically all the same items where taken. They also hit the kitchen and took, the blender and toaster oven.

So my friend is looking for a foot locker, military style for her to store all those type of items in, but she does not want the type that you use a combination lock with, she want the lock built in, and secure, and heavy so that it can't be carried away. Suggestions on where to find something like this?

Have you considered a hunting supply store? There are a number of really good locker-style gun storage cabinets out there. Alternately, look at secondhand sources for good, older models. An empty older locker can weigh 200 lbs. empty, which is a real deterrent in itself.

I'm so sorry that happened to them. How awful! I hope the girls and apt insurance (but guessing not?)

Any chance of camera surveillance anywhere nearby that might have caught the burglars on tape?

I have no help on the locker.

That's a great idea. I will pass it along, Thanks so much

I'm so sorry that happened to them. How awful! I hope the girls and apt insurance (but guessing not?) - They had insurance that the property suggested for them to use, but... It really only covers damages to the unit itself. So they told them tough luck.. so now.. one of the Dads is looking into it, so hopefully they will get some money back to help with this.

Any chance of camera surveillance anywhere nearby that might have caught the burglars on tape? There is but its one little camera, and not very good resolution, Someone had unscrewed the light bulb next to their door, so you really can't see anything and 2 other units in the same building, each of them one the floor above and one below them, they also were robbed one before Thanksgiving and one right before the Christmas break, which my friend found out later on, that they were not forth coming with. All of the units effected are on the end next to the stairs ( fire stairs). All the parents are banding together to find out what they are going to do to protect them. The thing it that the units are like in a hotel with interior hallways. They did call the local police since the campus security is really not much help..

I have no help on the locker.

Hopefully they will get so sort of answers today.

THis is really scary. Any chance that this could have been some people the girls know? How else would they have known no one was home and weren't going to be home for a while.

My DD is in the same type set up and is looking to move to an off campus apt this summer. I'm really nervous about this kind of stuff happening.

Get your DD some apartment insurance from the company who holds your homeowner's policy. It shouldn't cost too much and will save you all if something were to happen again.

Sounds like a terrible situtation at this point, if several places have been burglarized, and the complex didn't inform everyone after each event.

Our daughter's school recommended a sturdy filing cabinet, not one of those cheap ones. They said it was unlikely that anyone would take the time to break into it or be caught stealing it from the room.We actually went a step further and drilled a small hole in the back and placed a lock on it that attached to her bed post. That thing wasn't going anywhere! I also second insurance for the college student.
