Hosting a Southern Living party for a friend and need some ideas on what to have out to eat with our wine and drinks. Any ideas?

I make roll-ups, which are always a hit and easy to do. I take a square wrap and put some horseradish sauce(Boars Head makes a good one), some roast beef, and some cheese slices on it, stick some toothpicks in it to hold it together, roll it up and cut it into 1/2"-1" wide pieces.I lay the pieces on a nice platter. I also do the same thing with turkey, cheese and cranberry mayo. Take some jellied cranberry and mix it with mayo, spread that on the wrap, put the turkey & cheese on it and roll it the same way.

Pretty quick and easy, and people love them.

It may not exactly be "southern" food, however crab rangoon is excellent and very hip. It's just wonton wrappers, cream cheese, chives, and a splash of crab mixed in the cream cheese. They are fried and served hot in a chafing dish. Prep time would probably only be 15 min to scoop and fry.

They are then served with a teryiaki based sauce for dipping. YUM.

I'm not southern so if this is the theme I might not be any good at ideas but 'll give it a stab anyways
is it lunch or a meal or just snacks??
BBQ (like sloppy joes ) make ahead of time and just heat in crock pot
I put frozen mini pierogies in crock pot and pour sauteed onion with butter of them
spiral cut honey hams go over well people can eat plain for in a sandwich if you provide rolls
I like those ham and cheese crescent rolls recipe is from the pillsbury dough boy
I made profittias once. These were also mini cream puffs. Saw the Italian cook on the food network make these and got the recipe there. You drizzle nutella on top of them and can freeze them. Yummy.

I'm hungry for deviled eggs too. You could make little tea sandwiches of watercrest and chicken or tuna salad

I'm not southern either but here's a sweet & sour meatball recipe that couldn't be easier:

frozen store bought meatball
equal parts grape jelly and ketchup

put meatballs into crock pot set on low - mix together enough jelly/ketchup to cover meatballs - cook for about 4 hrs - serve plain or with mini rolls/biscuits (I guess that makes it a southern dish ;) )

Assuming it is soon, I'd go with cool, summery snacks.

Fresh veggies and dips, like a homemade hummus or cucumber-yogurt dip. Or a fresh guacamole dip and chips (I was just told that if you keep the pit from the avacado in the dip, it keeps it from getting brown. I'd never heard that before, but I'm certainly going to try this next time I make guac.)

What about some fresh pineapple and carmel dip, like they do at O'hana's. So good! Or a fruit pizza (lay out sugar cookie dough like a pizza crust, cook and cool, coat with a mixture of cream cheese, Cool Whip, and powdered sugar, and top with cut, mixed fruit).

BTW- the Southern Living website has tons of recipes that you could search.

No it doesn't have to be anything southern. Just looking for some ideas that are EASY to put together and taste good for a crowd of women getting together and basically having a big chat fest :chat:

Fruit Kabobs:

Purchase the wooden skewers in the store. They
come in different lenghts. Alternate
green grapes, pineapple chunks, strawberries and red flame
grapes. (or melon)........:)

I loved baked spinach artichoke dip. Yummy. Try an on-line search. Sorry I don't have one handy. If you have a Sam's membership, they sell lots of hors douvers type things. Like mini quiches and those roll-up things that someone else mentioned.

Take package of Bryan Cocktail Smokies, 1 8oz jar of Pace picante sauce, 1 jar reg flavor bbq sauce and 1/2 box of brown sugar and add all ingredients in crockpot and simmer until smokies have puffed. UUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMM GGGGood!!!!!::yes:: ::yes::

Here are a couple of easy recipes:

Cheesy Half Moons
1 pkg. Pillsbury Grands Corn or Buttermilk Biscuits
1 cup. shredded cheddar cheese
1 can diced green chiles, drained
2 tablespoons each of cilantro and green onion
Mix together the cheese, chiles, onion & cilantro with a dash of salt. Cut each biscuit in 1/2 and flatten each piece into a 3 1/2 inch round. Spoon a tablespoon of cheese mixture on each round, fold over dough and seal with a fork. Shape dough into a crescent or half moon shape and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes or until golden brown. (These are really delicious with the corn biscuits, esp. w/margaritas!)

Crab Rangoon Dip:
1 8oz block softened cream cheese
1 can crabmeat, drained and picked over for cartilage
Mix cream cheese & crabmeat. If you like, add a few drops of Tabasco or a small amount of green onion. Put in an ovenproof dish and heat until just bubbly (a minute or two in the microwave or 5-10 minutes in the oven) Stir and serve warm with townhouse or ritz crackers.

Shrimp Dip
1 8 oz. block softened cream cheese. (Make sure it's very soft, otherwise you'll get lumps.)
2 small jars of shrimp cocktail in sauce (or 1 lg. jar)
Mix shrimp cocktail with softened cream cheese. (I use an electric mixer, and whip the cream cheese untill smooth, then add the shrimp.) Serve with Bugles or potato chips - but Bugles really are best with this! This is so good and easy I usually double the recipe.

Feta with Honey (this goes well with wine)
Take a whole block of feta cheese and cut into cubes. Place on a nice plate and drizzle with honey. Put toothpicks in some of the chunks. Have extra toothpicks on hand also. (I just think it looks better if it's not a sea of toothpicks!) Good served with triangles of pita bread and some olives on the side.
Jazz up storebought olives (in oil, not the canned kind) by heating them just before serving. Heat them on the stovetop along with some orange or lemon zest and a garlic clove, maybe some rosemary or thyme if you have it and you won't believe how good they are. A little extra oil in this mix is great too, so you can dunk pita or crusty bread chunks into it. Or an olive oil dip by itself is very good and so easy - just take a shallow, pretty dish and fill it with good quality EVOO that has been heated with: red pepper flakes, garlic, parmesan cheese, salt, rosemary/oregano/ basil/thyme - any combination of these items would be good (although I'd use only 1 type of herb probably!)
I make a bagna cauda which is delicious too with bread and/or raw veggies for dunking. I don't like anchovies, but I do love this stuff and if you have any leftover it's terrific drizzled over potato salad, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, or sauteed spinach. I might use more garlic b/c I love it, but this is probably good for a mixed group!

Bagna Cauda:
Take 1 stick of butter, melt over low heat. Add 4-6 cloves chopped garlic and 1 can of anchovy fillets. Saute over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the anchovies have dissolved. (Do NOT let the garlic brown!) Stir in 1/2 cup olive oil and heat through. Serve warm with good crusty bread and veggies.

Have a great party!
