Needed: More awareness/consistency regarding DVC discounts

We just returned from 3 days at Disneyland/DCA and had a great time staying at the GC Villas. What I found a little irksome, however, is the relative lack of knowledge/awareness of the DVC 10% merchant/dining discount and the apparent inconsistency in granting the discount. Virtually every time we sought to utilize the discount there was a response of "I'm not sure" or "I'll have to check with my manager," etc. Really? Are DVC discounts so rarely utilized that CMs are so largely unaware? Further, it seems to me that DVC/Disney needs to tighten up consistency in accepting/granting the discount. There were several occasions when one location would grant the discount and then another (same type/level of Disney merchant/dining) would say, "sorry, we don't accept that."

What gives? Is my experience an outlier? Or have any of you experienced similar confusion/ lack of awareness with regard to this issue? It seemed everyone was abundantly aware of AP discounts but not nearly as universally aware of DVC disounts. At least that was our experience this time.

We had a different experience at DLR. We often forgot about the discount and the CMs would see DVC Member on our card and remind us about the discount.

It would nice if all restaurants and all shops accepted the discount, but Disney does not own all of them. Because Disney does not own them they cannot guarantee that a place of business will accept a discount. Each year Disney negotiates discounts with businesses and restaurants. Sometimes the owner will agree to the discount and other times they won't.

IMO the reality is that DVC is such a small minuscule number when compared to other guests, in the overall business, we are often more trouble than we are worth.

Often the CM's don't seem to receive proper training or they don't read their notices. It's just not important to many.

The easiest thing to do is take a printed copy of the perks page from the member website and show it to the CM's.
