I'm looking for a new mixed drink. I am not a big drinker but I'm going to a party with an open bar next weekend and I never know what to order at bars. I will not be driving.

Lately, wine seems to be bothering my stomach and I do not drink beer.

I like fruity or sweet drinks. I like chocolate martinis but they are too sweet to drink more than one and they are more of a dessert thing.

I don't like melon or apple. I love things like Kalhua and Amaretto.

Can anyone suggest a drink and give me the ingrediants?? I don't want to order something and then the bartender doesn't know how to make it.

Thanks.

If you tell the bartender that you like Kalhua and Amaretto he (or she) should be more than able to make you any one of a myriad of drinks. If you have to the give the bartender the ingredients, he shouldn't be behind the bar. Our (DW and I) favorite bartender enjoys making her drinks he thinks she will like. Be experimental and have fun.

An amaretto sour isn't to bad. DD and I made chocolate martinis at Christmas and they were really good.

Blue Hawaiians are my favorites:thumbsup2
1 ounce Rum (White)
2 ounces Pineapple Juice
1 ounce Blue Curaçao
1 ounce Coconut Cream
1 slice Pineapple
1 whole Maraschino Cherry
Blend with 1 cup of ice at high speed until smooth and pour into a highball glass. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.

Malibu Bay Breeze - This is all I ever drink.

1 1/2 oz. malibu rum
2 oz. cranberry juice
2 oz. pineapple juice

try a mojito-

1 part rum
3 parts club soda
12 mint leaves
half a lime
half part sugar

If you like coconut, try Malibu and 7-Up or Malibu and pineapple juice.

Back when I tended bar, I had a few patrons who swore they were addicted to some of my mixtures.

Milk Shake - Kahlua and milk blended with ice.
Milk Quake - Kahlua, vodka and milk blended with ice.
Electric Lemonade - vodka, blue curacao and sweet and sour mix on the rocks (Should have enough blue curacao to make the whole drink blue).

Personally, I enjoy a nice Bailey's and soda on the rocks. You might also like a Sex on the Beach, no matter how they make it. Sweet and fruity, either with Chambord or peach Schnapps.

Is an electric lemonade something I can order at just about any bar? Or is it more of a specialty drink?

See, that's it - I'm never sure if the bartender wants to be experimental! Plus I'm always afraid of what I'll get if I go that route.

Sadly, I have found many bartenders less than adequate at their jobs.

I love Flirtini's. They are 1 part pineapple juice, 1 part champagne, 1 part vodka.

My favorite is an Amaretto Sour, love them! But at an event last weekend, they didn't have the stuff to make it. So their special drink was the Mojito and it was very good! I was surprised!!

I second this (or third it, as I haven't read through all the replies). Though my friend and I go HEAVY on the rum (one time we finished a large bottle of malibu rum just the two of us) :thumbsup2

I can never drink more of 2 in a row of the same cocktail, so I have a wide repertory of liquid refreshments to choose from!

A Brandy Alexander is a nice drin, it's noted as the 'starter' cocktail in the film, "The Days of Wine & Roses" :rotfl:

1 1/2 oz brandy
1 oz white creme de cacao
1 oz heavy cream
1/4 tsp grated nutmeg

In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the brandy, creme de cacao, and cream. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with the nutmeg.

You can also add ice cream to it.

For a change up I'll order a Grasshopper:
equal parts of:
Green Creme de Menthe
White Creme de Menthe
Heavy cream
shaken w/ice, then strained into a martini glass
Substitute vodka for the cream & you have a Flying Grasshopper
************************************************
Amaretto & Cream
equal parts of amaretto & light cream, shaken w/ice & strained into a glass.
You can also substitute amaretto for the brandy in the Brandy Alexander for an Amaretto Alexander

singingpixie, I don't know if an electric lemonade is considered standard or not. I tended bar on a Naval base and in a very small town, and it took me some research to find the recipe for that drink. I liked to have something neat up my sleeve for those people who asked me to "surprise them". I think I read about electic lemonades being popular at some 70's or 80's hotspot.

I was also in the habit of giving almost any non-blended drink a short squirt of soda water or sprite to give it some bubbles.

I love Am Sours! They are kind of a light wieght, sissy, wedding open bar drink, but I don't care! They are delicious. Alabama Slammers are good, too. I think there is Southern in them, and I am not sure what else. Def yummy, though. Probably much stronger than an Am sour!

Malibu rum and diet coke is what I drink. I have friends who drink it with either regular coke or pineapple juice.

Bailey's on the rocks is a good sipping drink.

There is always the old standby of vodka and cranberry juice if it's not a full bar.

Malibu Bay Breeze - This is all I ever drink.

1 1/2 oz. malibu rum
2 oz. cranberry juice
2 oz. pineapple juice
Yum!! My signature drink!

Seabreeze - It's good if you like the taste of grapefruit.
Kamikazi - It tastes very much like 7up.
Tequila Sunrise - Another fruity drink, but I forgot what's in it.
