birthday party -5 or 6 girls. (12 yrs) We live in a nice little city - with shops downtown - but no mall. Though I'm not sure how friendly the workers can be (sometimes they can be snobby - HA!)

I've been googling -trying to come up with ideas - but thought I'd ask here as well - since y'all are good @ all this kind of thing.

Hi
What a great theme for a party. Since I have no originality, I googled and I found: birthdaypartyideas.com and they have a section for AR parties for diffrent age groups.

I had a friend who did this at a local mall.

She coordinated it with the managers of each store she utilized. I am not sure exactly how it was done, but it essentially was a scavenger hunt of sorts.

I have no suggestions--other than to personally discuss it with the stores if you plan on actually entering their property.

I think it will get complicated if you try to do roadblocks and detours and such.

If there are restaurants, you may be able to pre-pay via gift card or something and the "roadblock" be consuming a food item (and photographing it or something).

thanks for the help - yes I'm in the process of going thru that site now - tons of info there-but a lot thats not practical too.

Thanks for the gc idea - gadn't thought about using those

is having the girls split up - the b'day girl doesn't get to spend her time with all her friends. So I'm 2nd guessing the theme...

I would still go with the theme, it sounds like fun. Maybe make it done as a group instead of in pairs with a prize for everyone at the end.

We did an Amazing Race theme for DS's 12th birthday party last year, and it was a blast. Since I didn't want them running wild in our mall and we don't have a real nice downtown area, we used our neighborhood instead. I talked to various neighbors within a few streets or so of ours (which includes up and down hills) and they all agreed to let their yards be "countries" for the day.

We had about 30 kids in 4 teams, and boy did they take it seriously. At each country we had a banner of the country's flag and name of the country. They had clue boxes which contained details of the activity they had to perform in it but some times there was a roadblock where they would have to choose one of two activities. Once they completed the activity, they would get their next clue which would tell them directions to the next "country"

Some of our countries were Egypt (digging for various items in large buckets of sand), Switzerland (baby diaper game with chocolate), and Italy (digging gummy worms out of piles of whipped cream with only their mouth). I remember one road block was either one person had to eat a sardine in hot sauce and 3 Vienna sausages or the whole team each had to eat a jar of baby food. Surprisingly, a person from each team volunteered to eat the sardines and sausages, and it was so funny to watch.

I have rambled on way too much, but it really was a great party. All of the kids had a great time, and we loved watching them take it so seriously like they were really in the actual Amazing Race. There were even neighbors we didn't know that came outside their houses to watch the kids run around the neighborhood and do the various activites.

Have fun!

We had an Amazing Race Party for my birthday about 5 years ago. They made the stops, wrote out clues, things for all the party people to do, and had prizes for everyone who came to the party and played. They bought me the t-shirt from cbs.com and I still wear it now. LOVE LOVE LOVE that show!!

Good luck!!!

Any specifics would be great :thumbsup2

My DD just did a scavenger hunt party at our local mall and what we came up with was having the teams "steal" her. She started in one group and could help them find one item, after that whenever a new group came across her current group they could take her with them and then she could help the new team with finding one item. That way DD got to spend time with each group and she was in several different group pictures as they found items.

What a great idea! :thumbsup2 I'm SOOO not smart enough to come up with an idea like that! LOL
