A friend and I are heading to DLR at the end of June - it will be her first time and my first time in five years - haven't seen World of Color and want to go. I am wondering if anyone has advice on getting the fast pass vs. ordering the picnic dinner vs. getting a dining reservation package.

I don't want to just play it by ear - I'd rather have at least some sort of plan and "reserved viewing area." What do you recommend? If I do go the fast pass route, how does that work? Where do I pick it up and how early should I get there? If I go the picnic way, I see I can order online up to 30 days out. Anyone tried that? Also which restaurants have viewing packages?

Thanks for any info you can give me!!

This sounds like a job for the WOC Superthread!

This thread was put together by Hydroguy and is chocked full of great advice for how to work the WOC lines and such. It should be able to answer all your questions and more.

In my opinion it is not necessarry to book the WOC meal (or picnic) in order to get a good view. Just get to DCA right at opening and pull your fastpasses. Then follow all of the advice on the superthread about lining up early and such, and you should be in for a good show!!

I agree with Hydroguy and try to read at least the few sections of the WOC super thread. We went the fast pass route on our recent trip - we got the park at 10 am and went straight to the Grizzly River Rapids fast pass area and that is where the Fast Pass machines were. We got the blue section. We arrived 1 hour before the show and got a front row spot on the bridge. If we couldn't get that spot our second choice was the fire hydrant spot as shown in the super thread. We thought this spot was great and would not have traded it for anywhere in the hoards of people in the center area. After the show, we rode a few rides and on our way out of the park, the show was just starting. They were letting people in the viewing area without fast passes because the second show wasn't full. We didn't want to do that, but saw some other people standing/sitting at the Little Mermaid building/queue area which is behind the viewing area. We sat on the edge of the queue ramp and watched the show from this spot and it was AMAZING! It was better than our front row spots from the bridge. The images were so much clearer because we were straight on and we could see the images on the loop of California Screamin. Now, that being said, we missed a few of the fountains at the very surface of the lake, but the view made up for it and we didn't have to deal with crowds. I am not sure if they always let people watch from this area though. Because we were right against the building, we were not blocking the walkway at all, and I think that is why it was fine. Because we were away from the crowd, kids on their parents shoulders had no effect on our view at all. I will never pay for seating for WOC now, and I will not stress about getting a good spot down front any more.
