I know there are a lot of WL experts out there!

After three missed closing dates we'll be closing on the Florida house via FedEx next week!

In early September we will go down for "move in" and will be staying at the WL CL for a few nights while we get settled in, take deliveries, etc.

I booked non-smoking for medical reasons, and requested two queens rather than bunkbeds. Should I make any other room requests? Can anyone suggest a good room?

Tell me about the concierge there. I understand there's not actually a lounge, just a few tables and chairs near the elevator? We will have hectic days, and would like to have a place to relax in the evening while enjoying a drink. Is this possible, or is it too busy in the hallway?

Any other info is appreciated :)

TIA!!

Anne

Hey!!! My inlaws stayed on the 7th floor during our Thanksgiving trip. We went up there a few times and even though it was during this busy weekend, you would never have known it. The CMs always greet you and such as you get off the elevator. The "lounge" is just tables along either side of the railings , which was pretty nice as you didn't have tables right next to you. I don't remember seeing any rooms in this area....My inlaws room overlooked the villas (blah)-I would request the courtyard view for sure. The rooms are definitely not "luxurious" feeling like AKL-it's just a different feel, but definitely goes with the theme. I think the WL will be a haven from the hectic stuff that goes on during a closing. Good luck!!!!

We just returned from a wonderful stay at Wilderness Lodge!!! We didn't stay concierge, but our room location was great! We had room 5019 and it overlooked the pool! It was very quiet - we never heard our neighbors! Sometimes, in the evening, DH & I would sit out on the balcony. It was so nice.

Enjoy your stay!

Hi Anne, That must be sooooo exciting! Congratulations!

Anyway, the CL tables are not by the elevator. I mean, they are next to it, but you don't see the elevator when you are at the CL tables or food table. Does that make sense?? The elevator is around the corner from CL and the CL staff has a desk next to the elevator.

I've never been to any other CL on property, so I can't compare for you. I got a great discount on the room (read STEAL! :p ).

It is shaped like a U, with the closed end being where the food table is and either side being where the tables are that you can sit at(in a single row). The whole thing overlooks the lobby (and Christmas tree when we were there). It is absolutely beautiful (the lobby, that is).

Hope this helps. Have a great time.:sunny:

Bumping for (hopefully) some more info.

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far!

I will preface my response with the fact that my most recent stay at WL concierge was Dec 2001. However, we stayed there in a honeymoon "suite" during one of the busiest times (x-mas week) and we still found that we were able to relax and have a drink or two at night. Even though there is not a distinct lounge like at YC or BWI we found the seating that was offered at WL to be comfortable, spread out and offer a nice view of the lobby.

Even though you could hear some of the noise from Whispering Canyon Cafe, it did not take away from the experience any more than the noice from the lobby of the GF main building concierge or AKL concierge lounges does when their lobbies are busy. Honestly, when you really think about it most people's main complaint about the WL concierge is that it does not have a distinct/separate lounge. In my opinion neither do AKL of GF concierge as they both overlook the lobby but seem to receive high ratings from visitors. The main difference is that the WL does not have a seating area that is "pushed back" from the railings to the lobby as the other two resorts do. I find that we prefer the concierge lounges that ovelook the lobby compared to the smaller separate areas like YC and BWI. We like the airy, spreadout feeling.

I think some people have also stated that the food offerings were lesser at the WL. I would say that on a given night that not as many dishes were offered as say AKL but that the selections were more varied between days. The cobbler and cookies we sampled as well as the evening selections (soups and appetizers) at the WL were excellent. The breakfast offerings were pretty standard to what we have seen in other lounges. In fact, we were more satisfied with the WL than with our last stay in a Honeymoon Suite in GF Main Building concierge (although we are hoping that the GF will redeem itself during our Christmas this December).

Please let me know if you have any specific questions or would like more information.

The WL concierge "lounge" overlooks the lobby. Personally, I think the WL lobby is beautiful. I found it great to sit at a table overlooking the lobby, and watching the people. Being on the 7th floor you're close enough to see everything, but far enough away so it's not noisy. I would take this "lounge" over any closed room any day. Fireworks - you might be able to see MK fireworks from the north wing. There is a hallway window in one area of that section. The concierge rooms I found to be the same as any other WL room, except that it has a refrigerator, and robes. We had a "south wing woods view". Nothing special. If possible try to get a "courtyard view". Be sure to tell the CM's that you are celebrating the closing on your new home... something special might come your way. Concierge or not, we've received birthdaycards, balloons, and champagne (non concierge) during our stays at WL. Have a great time!

Room 5016 has a view of the castle. Definately call a week before check in and make all your requests. The staff at the WL is the best.

We stayed last Sept and were not very impressed with Concierge. We found the room to be dark and our balcony view was terrible. Our balcony did not have "railings;" it was a concrete slab facing the woods. We did not spend any time there as I'm only 5'0 and when I sat down, I couldn't see any view at all.

The concierge staff was wonderful, though. They do not have a lounge, but they have tables and rocking chairs on 2 hallways facing the lobby. It was nice to sit and look down at the lobby, but I was spoiled at the AKL concierge lounge, so it was a little bit of a letdown.

I wish I remembered my room number so that you knew which area to avoid.

You may want to PM Majestic(WL Thread) for info!...he is the WL Concierge King!-he even was upgraded to the Yosemite suite(Vice Presidential suite)!

Thank you everyone! I know Majestic from our NJ Dis-meet, I'll get in touch with him. (Don't need the upgrade--we wouldn't be there enough to really enjoy it!)

PatHill--thanks for the room number--I'm going to request it and keep my fingers crossed. I know we'll be tired at the end of each day--have LOTS of stuff to unpack--and we won't have the energy to go to the parks to see the fireworks, so watching them from the balcony will be great.

This is my favorite deluxe resort. I had a "woods" view room last year and had room 5032. I had a wonderful view of Cindy's Castle, as well as the upper levels of the Contemporary and parts of the lagoon. The room was located near the elevators, but I found the room very quiet. The room had 2 queen beds and was non-smoking. If you click on the link below "2003 pics", I took alot of pictures of both the room and the view from the balcony. You could hear the music and see most of the fireworks from the Wishes show.

I noticed that someone suggested calling for room requests.

Do you mean calling the WL itself or calling Disney Travel?? Should the request include the room number?? I realize we may not recieve it, but I figure it never hurts to ask.

We check in next week should I do this soon??
