need wireless password help

I have a wireless connection at my house. My sons girlfriend is trying to connect but he can't find the paper I wrote the key down on (it's locked). Is it possible my son can access the password from his computer even though it automatically connects him?

Generally you will ot be able to access the password. You may have to reset the router. What brand is the router?

My Linksys router let me add a computer from within the router program. It had me plug in a flash drive to the main computer and download something, then when I plugged the flash drive into the computer I was adding, it set it up to allow access. I never had to punch in the access code. Good luck.

One little wrinkle though. The computer we used to set up the network and router is no longer in use. So now what would we do?

They usually recomend that you have a computer hard wires to the router when setting it up. You actually access the router like going on the internet by typing in a numbered url address. Diffrent brands have diffrent IP addresses so before we can continue you need to know the brand and even better the model number.

You could call the router company and ask how to reset the password. (you will probably have to pay for that though if it is out of the warranty or the allowed setup time frame).

If you can't remember what your Wireless key is:

Use any connected computer to login to the router, using http://192.168.1.1 and hit enter. Leave the user blank and type admin for the password.

Once logged into the router, you can reset the Wireless key to anything you like. Just remember you would then need to update all of your computers with this key.
