This is more of a general Paris question that's not related to DLP, so I hope that's okay. 20-yr-old DS and his best friend will be studying in Rouen, France for 5 weeks this summer, and they'd like to venture out on some weekend excursions from Paris to other countries, whether by train or by air. Anyone have any experience with doing this and any helpful tips? :confused3 They're trying to get things planned out ASAP because they leave for France on June 2.

Any advice at all will be greatly appreciated! :worship:

Hello,

You can go nearly anywhere in Europe from Paris in 2/3 hours

With the Thalys (train) Bruxelles is 1h20 - Amsterdam is 3h20 - Cologne is 3h15

With Eurostar (train)London is 2h35

You can also travel overnight down to Spain or to Italy with the train saving you daytime

After look at Easyjet, Ryanair and the Scandainavian low cost airlines as you can godown to Spain, Portgual, Greece, across to Ireland and up to Scotland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark in a few hours from Charles de Gaulle/Orly or Beauvais airports

Basically you just have to choose your country and then look on the website and reserve your ticket

Have fun planning and I hope he has a great time in Rouen which is a lovely place to stay :goodvibes

I suppose the obvious one is to get the Eurostar to London - this leaves from Gare du Nord station in Paris.

Yeah, they've decided on London for sure, and would really like to make it to Italy. The trick is in lining up all the details on a college kid's budget -- which cities to visit, what to do, where to stay, etc. I love planning trips, but now DS is getting a taste of just how much time and effort goes into it. Since starting this process, every evening, this is me... :surfweb: :coffee: and this is DS... :surfweb: :coffee: Every morning, this is me... and this is DS... :crazy2: LOL

Thanks for replying. If anyone else has suggestions for where to go, that would be great!

I took the sleeper train from Paris to Rome. It was pretty comfortable and inexpensive. They could also look at youth hostels to stay at. I stayed at Premier inn very reasonable. For Rome you can just get a map and book and explore the city. For London, I got the London Pass.

I know its not another country but Paris is very close to the Champagne Region (Reims and Epernay). If you like Champagne its a wonderful place to visit and nearly all the Champagne houses do tours (with tasting at the end). After Disney its my all time favourite place.
