We recently purchased a washer and dryer, so this is what I found:
Sears Outlet Store has good prices, they even have some washing machines that are brand new still in crates marked down! The problem is, you have to haul them home yourself. We made some inquiries about help with loading the machines into our car, and they actually refused to help us unless we have a pickup truck.
I would be staying away from actual floor models after seeing what salespeople do to the machines to "demonstrate how well they work, even with a load that is not balanced".
We went to a lot of the big box stores, including Home Depot, Leon's, The Brick, Future Shop, and Costco. I also phone a number of local stores to inquire about prices once we have decided what we wanted. The funny thing is that The Bay actually gave us the best price of all the stores I talked to!

We even got free delivery on the washer and dryer. I am not sure if you can pay later at The Bay though.
And if you buy the energy efficient washers in Ontario, I believe you don't have to pay the PST on them (I think this promo maybe good until the end of the year?)
Good luck!
