As the winter doldrums set in, I seek advice. I need to plan a vacation, but on a tight budget, and one I'm afraid that does not permit for Orlando:sad1:

That being said, we as a family would like to find a place on the east coast on the ocean. We've stayed in Cape May before, and while we enjoy the Jersey Shore, I wouldn't mind venturing a bit more south.

Does anyone have any advice, thoughts, ect on a good 'family place' along the ocean to stay for a few days? Our departure point is upstate NY, with a trip through Philly planned as part of the journey.

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated:thumbsup2:

ocean city, maryland. we've gone even in the winter (fil has a condo there), and it's often sweatjacket weather (when it's freezing here in NY).

lots and lots to do. google it, and you'll find tons of tourist things.

I'm interested in hearing the replies you get. We would like to go east this year because it would be cheaper on the pocket books but California keeps luring me back. I just love Disneyland. I've looked at Outer Banks, NC and Hilton Head, SC but it just hasn't captured me yet.

How about Williamsburg, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head Island.

When are you planning on going? Reason I am asking is because you can find some really great deals off season. We are heading to Hilton Head for Feb. break to visit my parents who just moved there. My sister and her family are also going and found a three bedroom condo at the Hilton Head Resort for $300 for the week.

We stayed at this resort last summer and I think it is best deal on the island. It is one of the oldest resorts, but the beach is gorgeous and the acess is awesome. They have a boardwalk to the beach with a golf cart shuttle. During the summer they have a beach bar/restaurant open on the beach called Coco's. They have four pools...one indoors which is why my sister is staying here in February.

You can rent directly through owners on homeaway.com or check out the resort at hhresort.org.

When we stayed here last summer I rented a two bedroom for $1000 for the entire month of July! We only stayed two weeks, but the owner wanted the place occupied and gave us a better monthly rate.

If you are thi king of other places to go, check out skyauction.com for their vacation rentals. If anyone is a govt. employee, you can also use govarm.com and getravelop.com.

Last April we went to Williamsburg for spring break and paid $300 for a two bedroom condo at King's Creek Resort for the whole week.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

We went to a baseball tournament in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware a couple of years ago. We really enjoyed the area and would vacation there. We also loved Myrtle Beach, although we went in August and it was pretty humid.
