Need to vent!

Yesterday I called my local tire store to have a price for a set of 4 winter tires, the guy over there tells me, its 865$ with tax.

I called back to order them this afternoon and its now 1041$

What happened??? I talked to his boss and he told me don't you ever make errors??? What kind of an answer is that???

Well, I think I will have to go somewhere else, but they were the cheaper place....

If they jerk you around on the price, then they aren't trust worthy overall. Unless it's a huge differance in cost, I'd pay a bit more and go somewhere else!

Wow! Both those numbers sound high. I recently bought my tires at Sam's Club. It was far cheaper then anywhere else and they do free lifetime rotation, so when I shop they check my tires!

If you do not have Sam's, Costco also will do a great job for you.

Well Nancy the problem is that its for an Econoline Ford, so that's why its so expensive! But, I just talked to my DH and told him, even if the other place was a little bit more expensive, I think we are going to go there!!

We've gotten ours from Tirerack.com for a good price, and they are reliable. Tires delivered to your house, then all you have to do is have a garage put them on. Saved us $$. Good luck.

We just got ours at Costcto and they have a sale on Michelins right now - plus if you buy there you get free tire rotations. Not sure if you have a Costco. The funny thing is that when I called for a price it was higher than the local tire store. I thought this was odd since Costco always has such good prices. Then, as an afterthought, the guy on the phone says "that's your out the door price". Well that made it a lot less than the tire store because they tack on disposal, taxes etc. to the price they give on the phone. So if anyone calls Costco, know that the price they quote includes everything.

I can also recommend both Costco and Sams. We've gotten tires at both places, and they were both great. We even had a flat tire on one from Sams, and knew that they might discount a replacement, but they gave it to us free. (The flat was actually cause by debris in the road, and wasn't a problem with the tire itself.)

Wal-Mart also has good prices on tires.

You can order these from walmart.com, have them shipped to the store nearest you. You do have to give a cc# but you do not pay for them until you have them put on your car, your cc is never charged.

His boss sounds like a charmer
I hope you find someplace cheaper, that seems awfully expensive! Makes me nervous because I need 4 new tires and was HOPING around 800.00 tops!!
