 ok guys just venting a little....my dss11 cut his leg about a week a half ago and i took him to the er for stiches.I called his mom while we were there so she could come up,get got stiched up and doc gave me his paperwork (i am the one taking him to follow up appt) and told everyone keep it dry.FASTFOWARD.....THIS PAST WEEKEND he was with her and she took him to the beach and told him to get in the water!! well today I had to take him back to the dr because the would looked like it was getting infected. He went to the clinic and she called ME to go look at it and take him back to the dr.I dont mind..so I called my dh and we took him in.
They were not pleased he went into the gulf and said the stiches could have came out (they didnt) BUT it looked like it was getting infected because of the bacteria in the water...now he has to take meds (stronger) again and use bactriban cream. We leave for wdw in 10 days and they said now the stiches have to stay in longer...no water park. The dr told US ALL to keep it dry...just keep it dry...:sad2: sorry everyone I just needed to vent a little...poor baby I feel so bad for him.:sad1:

livie1205 so sorry for your DSS and your family. That stinks! Maybe you could put a bandaid, some gauze, a little saran wrap and then medical tape. That should be able to keep it dry for the water park rides, however, may be to soon for the pools. You may want to ask the Dr. if since he would be going into a chlorine pool maybe that would be ok? Sorry I'm sure you already did but just trying to find a way out for you and the little fella! :sad1:

Pixie Dust to him so that he gets better soonpixiedust:

Hugs to you for being a great SM!:grouphug:

I think I will take him back over to go the the water parks later in the summer...I just want his leg to heal up...he is ok to walk around though.

From one step-Mom to another  I know how hard it is to deal with a Mom who is more interested in being the cool fun parent then do the right thing. Thank goodness our boys have us to be light of wisdom, otherwise they would think all women were selfish like their Moms.

Take care of you

In addition to the antibiotics, I would recommend daily intake of yogurt to replenish some of the GI tracts normal flora that the antibiotics are probably taking a toll on. If yogurt is not palatable, there are Lactobacillus acidophilus capsules available usually at health food stores. This may prevent any GI issues, ie diahorrea. Hope this helps.

I understand your frustration.

To prevent further problems in the future, I would make sure that your DS fully understands how to care for his injury. At 11, he is absolutely old enough to follow the doctor's recommendations and to begin to understand the danger of ignoring them.

This may sound unreasonable but if his mom is somewhat lax then it is even more important for him to take more responsibility himself when you're not around.

Oh, I'm so sorry for you and dss. Some parents make me:headache: I mean what idiot parent would just do the complete opposite to what their childs Dr. says and put their child in harm like that??? Thank goodness your dss had you guys to take him back to the Dr. before it got any worse. It must be so frustrating for you guys. I hope everything goes well for your dss and have fun at Disney, even without the water parks.

I know, I really just don't get some people. They think they know better than the Doc, or just don't care.

Thanks everyone....myself and the dr explained to him how to take care of his leg so this would not happen again by maybe just saying no thank you I would rather not get in the water or going in the bathroom and act like he is washing it instead of saying to her she is wrong and getting into trouble.I had a talk with him about making sure it gets healed and if he things its the wrong thing to do then just not doing it.I have been going to the school everyday to make sure he has his meds and checking the wound.
I also spoke with her about how he should be taking care of it and the dangers of it getting infected.
It is just it happens a lot...a few months ago he was with her on a weekend and got strep,he was very sick and instead of taking him to the dr she waited till monday to drop him off at our house and I took him...it was so bad at that point he had to get a shot AND oral meds, he was NOT happy. The thing is the next day she took herself to the dr to get meds for herself!WE pay for the health care so its not like she had to pay to take him. THANKS AGAIN...VENTING HELPS!! lol

Well thank God he has you.

Strep can turn into rheumatic fever if left untreated and can permanently damage his heart valves.

I don't think you're just his step mom, I think you're his guardian angel.

That is aweful that his mother took him to the beach and told him to go in the water even after the Dr said not to!!! UGH!!!
