Here's the story:
In April last year my boyfriend was driving home from work. He came to a junction and was about to pull out. He noticed a vechicle coming however thought he had enough time to pull out as the vechicle (a van) seemed to be quite far away. My boyfriend misjudged the vans speed and it crashed into his car. The man who was driving the van seemed ok and was saying that insurance would cover any damage. More damage was done to my boyfriends car than the van.
Anyway, last Saturday my boyfriend gets a letter from the mans lawyer saying he wants more money and if he doesn't get it by a certain date he's going to take the case to court!!!! This has irriated me so much because it seemed like it was all over last year as the insurance appeared to sort everything out! My boyfriends car was fixed within a month and any damage done to the mans van was fixed immediately through the insurance companies.
My boyfriend was advised to take blame for the accident to prevent going to court, so he did. Now the man has said that my boyfriend was a) driving too fast and b) failed to swerve out of the way of an oncoming vechicle (his van). If this does go to court my boyfriend has to not only pay the man what he wants, but also pay £1,600 in court fees!
This man seemed so nice at the time telling him not to worry about anything and now goes and does this!!!
It's so frustrating! The insurance company is apparently trying to solve the problem and said that the mans lawyers should've sent the letter to them and not to my boyfriend (they said they may have done it just to scare him! That's so awful if they have, its the second letter they've sent to him wrongly). It seems like this man is trying to get as much as he can out of this situation.
I just needed to get it out of my system. It's worrying me. I just hope its sorted out soon
