need to vent...extra charge when booking dp

"The TA's commission comes out of the mark-up on the package price, not as an addition to it!"

This above statement is correct, Disney pays the TA out of the price of the package or whatever booking they do for you... so if you book with Disney or use a TA, it should cost you the same. I am rather shocked as I am a member of AAA and have been for many years, we pay for that membership and I always thought that any of the services that they offered were included in that membership...I am not saying extra insurance for a trip, but I thought to use their facilities and in this case, their TA's who should get their commission directly from Disney, would be gratis.

I would check on this for sure. And.. I might take my business elsewhere like Dreams and transfer my ressie to them or any of the other internet ones....or book directly with Disney and see if you can get the same thing.. hold the ressie and then cancel the AAA one..

I see after reading page 2, silly me, that it worked out for you. Bravo!!!!! But for some reason I am a bit suspicious of the whole incident. What if you had not questioned it, would you just have forked over that money and to whom??

I have never been charged a fee for using a travel agent. The ones I have used got their commission from Disney not me.

I would call the AAA office and find out if they in fact do charge a fee to the customer.

Same here!

We, too, have never been charged more then 2.00 per flight or 5.00 per person per vacation. The travel agents get a % from airlines, hotels or vacation packages.

OP, I would ask for my money back (if it is more then two weeks), rebook with a reputable travel company, and ask before paying a down payment exactly how much the fees run for their service.

Um, Sadie's mostly right - except that the airlines pay only $10 or $20 (may have dropped) commission per ticket, which is why many Travel Agencies charge a fee for this aspect only.

I used AAA to book our most recent trip which was difficult for me as I'm such a planner and need to be in complete control of everything....

That being said, the only way I could get a room discount AND add the DDP was to go through AAA. There were no upcharges-I'd calculated everything out prior to going in and what I got charged is exactly what I'd figured as the price at home by using the AAA website for the room cost per night, the DDP, and our tix...

Does each AAA office run differently? I know we saved $518 off our week's vacation ($300 first by using AAA then code ZJZ came out and my TA applied that one instead of the AAA discount and it saved us $518 total :thumbsup2)

Well mostly right is better than all wrong, huh?:lmao: J/K

I just checked our tickets for our upcoming trip and the airline only charged us 2.00 pp for a booking fee.
