Need to see the Pacific!

Hey there!

We want to get to the ocean for Day 6. I keep hearing about Huntington Beach. Is that what you would recommend? We will have a rental car. Is there easy parking? Do we just park and wander?

Parking is $15 per day in the beach-parking lots between Pacific Coast Highway and the beach. If you're able to park near the pier (harder on weekends or special events like the surfing championship end of July), then you can walk to downtown HB and eat or shop.

There is a lot of parking total but it gets more crowded the closer you get to the pier/downtown. All of the beach is wide and open for everyone.

Huntington beach is geared more at late teens to early 30s. It's a long Sandy beach and is usually crowded. If you have kids head south and check out newport or laguna. Both are more family friendly in terms of wave size and shopping/ crowds.

I would suggest Westward Beach/Point Dume. You get fewer crowds and get to see the iconic California
cliffs along with a little over a mile of wide sandy beach. You'll recognize this area as the filming locations
of "Grease" and the famous ending of "Planet of the Apes".

If you're looking for shopping and attractions this isn't the place for you - this is just the beach and cliffs.

I like Crystal Cove State park in Newport Beach. It also has a couple places to eat. An expensive one on the the beach and a hamburger/shake shop on the cliff.
