My DH began his trip to MD today to begin his new job and realized after he was quite a bit aways from home that he forgot his passport which he needed as a second photo ID.

He starts the job on Tuesday--so I need to overnight his passport tomorrow so that it gets there as early as possible on Tuesday.

I know USPS does a by 10am delivery.

Is there anyone with an earlier guaranteed delivery time for a non-commercial client?

TIA!

Check with FEDEx. I used to work in an office with very time sensitive documents. We would use them for early morning delivery. Be prepared, there's a hefty surcharge for it.

Thanks! He has to begin work Dec 1 so that we will have insurance right away, or we get stuck paying the state equivilant of Cobra where the delta will be far greater than whatever FedEx wants to nail us with.

What kind of hefty surcharge are we talking? $30-$50?

Okay, UPS has an early delivery - by 8 AM - for about $59 (I used Orlando and Baltimore, so it's just an estimate). I'll be back with FedEx in a minute or so...

Okay, FedEx First Overnight is the same price - $58.62 - and guarantees arrival by 8 AM. Now, they also have a same day service, but you need to call them for rates 1-800-GoFedex (I think 1-800-463-3339)

Thank you so much!

That will work. I know where the FedEx office is, so I will just use that. He's driving against DC traffic, so an overnight by 8am will work just dandy and he won't be too late getting in.

Thanks for your help!

What kind of a job is he starting? He should be ok with a drivers license and a social security card (unless he doesn't have one of these). Then he would need the passport.

All I know is his job required him to have a security clearance, so perhaps that is why they need a second ID.:confused3

I think he might have said a Birth Certificate might have worked, but he didn't have anything else in his wallet aside from his Driver's license.

ETA: I will ask him if the SS will work and if he has it on him though before I go to the expense. Good idea. I'm not sure if he carries it with him though.

Do you have his new work address? You could probably overnight it straight to them.

For the I9 and clearance items, you will need a SS card, photo ID-license. That will be all you need to start. The clearance paperwork is done online (at least mine was) so you didn't need that. If he has any other photo ID, prior work ID, college ID, union card or even a credit card with a photo on it he should be ok.

If you overnight it to his hotel, make sure to put "registered guest" somewhere on the form, so the hotel doesn't reject it.
