I called member services this morning. I find myself in a quandry, with no points left til October 2011!!!:scared1:

I need 4 lousy points for our last night stay at AKV in April, I booked the room on cash for now. I know I can purchase them through Disney, however I also want to have some points available for a 3 or 4 night stay in January, which I'm looking to have transferred into my account from another member.

I was under the impression that I could only have one transfer per year. So, either I rent from another member and have them transferred into my account OR I get from Disney.

But....Member services told me this morning I can do one of each transaction per year, as the points I get from DVC are not considered a transfer, but a purchase. So that if I buy the 4 points from them, I can have a fellow member/friend transfer points into my account once in the use year as well. Is this correct?

Thanks for any info you can offer.

With Disney, you can buy up to 24 points to add a day or days to a planned trip if making the reservation 7 months out or less. That transcation is not considered a transfer of points (the transfer rules apply to members transfering to other members and thus do not apply to Disney selling you some points).

You thus can have someone else transfer to you points to use for a January trip, which would be your one transfer for your Oct 2010 to Sep 2011 use year. Alternatively, you could just do a rental from another member who uses his own points to make a reservation in your name. That kind of rental would not consitute a transfer of points.

Note that for that Jan trip you are currently only four months out so there is no certainty you will be able to get what you want.

You can purchase 24 pts or less from DVC per Use Year so if your UY is October you are still within your 2009 UY and can purchase & use for trip in January 2011 or April 2011 during this month and then on October 1, 2010 you can purchase up to 24 pts again. You'd have to request and purchase the points when you make your reservation; they don't allow you to purchase and apply these points to an existing reservation.

You can get a transfer of points from another member into your 2009 UY by end of September
(these points transferred to your 2009 UY would most likely need to be banked then into your 2010 UY) and then October 1 2010 get another transfer into your 2010 UY. Just be sure that the transferred points will be valid for dates of trips you want to book.

Good luck :goodvibes

Thank you so much for this information. One more question, if I were to buy the 24 from Disney today, as 2009 points, they cannot be banked, correct?

What about transferring? If I have another member transfer into my account today, can they be banked? I'm thinking no on both counts, but need someone out there to confirm that.

Thanks again.

How much are the points from Disney?

yep - can't be banked. (not sure if they really have a home resort or UY, per se.)

if you have pts transferred in, those transferred pts can then be banked.

if you have banked pts, you cannot transfer them out.

If you need to purchase thru Disney are the points usable at the 11 month mark? Are they resort specific or just generic to be used at 7 months?

I think I need ONE point (ugh! :headache:) - possibly a few more - in order to book an extra night at AKV but I'll be booking at the 11 month window. I'll have 225 AKV pts. and if the 2012 charts stay the same as 2011, I think I'll need 226 for 7 nights in a 2BR Value, which I'll need to reserve at 11 months.

They can only be used at 7 months and do not have a resort attached.

Thanks -- I doubt I'd find anyone willing to transfer such a small amount of AKV points (I'd probably need less than 10). I'll have to see what happens when the 2012 point charts get released.
