So DH is somewhat claustrophobic and is planning to not ride this. I was thinking of not riding also, cuz I don't want to get sick have to take care of DDs (age 4 and 19mos when we go). But now I was talking to a friend of mine who said her mother in her 70s went on it. I love roller coasters of all kinds, have been on TOT also. So what do you think...should I try it?

I think if you can stomach roller coasters you shouldn't miss out on this. I will be there tomorrow and it is the first ride I am taking my MIL on. IMHO enjoy it and you will probibly want to go on it again!!!

PLEASE DO IT! I had so much fun on this ride. I'm glad I tried it. I don't think it's even long enough time wise for the claustraphobia to set in. I can hardly wait to try this again, I had been "over anxious" about this ride too. Enjoy it!

Give it a try. Just make sure to look straight ahead during the whole experience. The people who get sick are those who look around in the cabin and that's when you'd get dizzy and off center. I was a bit worried before I did the ride, but I kept focused and it was terrific. I will not, however, let my 10 yo DD ride it just yet because I don't believe she would be focused.

I think you'll really like it.

I love roller coasters and I love TOT; I did not however love Mission Space. This is not a roller coaster ride, it spins! I usually don't have a problem with spinning but I did come out just a little dizzy eventhough I did everything you're suppose to do and look forward and that whole thing.

Aside from no feeling too good after the ride, I just wasn't impressed by it on the whole. Spiderman at IOA is a MUCH better simulator type ride. I just didn't find MS to be anything special and probably wont be doing it again.

It's not as bad as everyone says, but it's difficult to say who will enjoy it ad who will not.

I am succeptible to motion sickness but have had no trouble at all with M:S (I've ridden it about 7 times since it opened).

Others who have never had motion sickness have gotten sick after riding M:S.

I recommend you try it. Listen to the safety instructions, but don't let them get you flustered. They repeat the warnings ("Don't ride if you have neck or back problems, prone to motion sickness, claustrophobic, etc.") about 6 times as you wait in the queue, which scares the jeebers out of some people and they get sick just from fright. Just keep your head straight and look at the computer monitor during the ride, and you will be fine.

I really, really love that ride.

Speaking for my dw, she is not a roller coaster fan and loved Mission Space. I thought it was a lot of fun too

GO ! Dont be freaked by all the warnings... everytime I ride it I see all these people getting worried and wearing these huge grins afterwards. We need a MS smilie :faint:

This is crucial- they warn you about this before you ride.

I am prone to motion sickness- I always get seasick and sometimes carsick. I love roller coasters but get sick on the carousel. I am not claustrophobic-

All that said- I really loved Mission Space- I didn't get sick at all but I did feel a little weird for about 5 minutes after riding. That didn't stop me from riding it twice!

However- you mentioned claustrophobia- You will have a snug over-the-shoulder harness. That may be a problem. The capsule itself should cause any problem as it is larger than the inside of a car in my estimation.

OH YEAH!!! I was about a month pregnant and didn't know it when I rode it the first time in September. I was a little dizzy getting off of it but my DH chalks that up to the pregnancy at the time.

forgot to add- DS (age 7) who is very scared of many rides (even tame rides- like Pirates of the Carribean) LOVED Mission Space. Maybe it's because he is interested in space... I don't know but he went on this a bunch of times.

I loved it! But DH felt woozy about 5 minutes after getting off. Even so, he said he really enjoyed it during the ride. As everyone has said, keep your eyes on the video monitor the whole time.

The harness and the fact the the "mission controls" move in toward you after your capsule is loaded make this a poor choice for someone who is claustrophobic, unfortunately. But it might not be too bad during the ride, because you really feel as if you are moving, with a "window" to look out of.

Anyway, if you do not get motion sickness or claustrophobic, this ride is a do not miss.

We rode it 4 or 5 times last week and loved it. My Dh, my DS 8 and my 6 year old autistic son went on every time with us too! He also loved it!! The sensations it creates are really wild, but I did not feel like I was spinning at all. It is a snug harness and the area it small so claustrophobics might have a prblem because when you are in and the screen raises towrds you there is not much room so i would be careful if you are a true claustrphobic. My Dh CANNOT do spinning rides at all and he was fine on this one. We loved it!!

I love roller coaster and am prone to motion sickness on rides that spin. I tried mission space. It is like sitting in a closest and I looked straight ahead at the screen and felt terrible. I wanted out. Thank goodness I did it at the end of the day, cause I felt horrible for hours afterwards.

I rode this two times in a row and so did my DS 12 and DD 6. Her birthday was the day we were at Epcot. They both loved it so much they wanted to ride it again immediately. If you look directly at the screen, you cannot feel the spinning. It is one of the neatest rides I have ever been on. It is very unique. If your husband can ride Star Wars, then this is not too much worse as far as being claustophobic. The ride is not very long. Now, if he is extremely claustophobic he may not want to ride, but it does not get pitch black and you are sitting right next to each other.

We rode when it first opened and I have to say HATED IT! I am a huge roller coaster person- this is not that. I will say that I have heard they toned it down since then. But any ride with throw up bags by your seat is not for me. I didn't know I was claustrophobic until I went on this ride. It is very tight. I looked just straight ahead the entire time and thought after the initial launch- I am going to die or at least pass out. Then it got better and I did enjoy the whole really cool factor of the ride. But no way am I riding this one again. DH and I are already arguing because DS(10) LOVES this ride and wants to go on it this summer. We are arguing over who has to go on with him. It was that bad. Again maybe it has been toned down but if not AVOID. :crazy2:

I have similar situation as CheapMom, I too felt a little weird after the ride, little woozy, numb forearms....but have to say absolutely loved it, I've never experienced anything like it....Will I go on it again????????????????? I'd say yes!

I love all kinds of thrill rides, not just rides but I've been in a real NASCAR stock car up at the Pocono Raceway going over 150mph - a lot more dangerous than a roller coaster or thrill ride. I admit, I don't like ToT because I don't like the feeling of just free falling, it really scares me. Anyway. My sister is the exact opposite - she's scared to death of almost any ride. I had to lie to her to get her on MS, but it was worth it. She's scared of going fast, upside down, and that "whooshy belly feeling" as I call it. However, the first time we got off MS she looked at me and said "Again!" She stayed focused the whole time, didn't close her eyes or look away, and she said she was absolutely fine and loved it. We went on it twice in a row and after the second time she wanted to go again, and me - the big thrill seaker - had to take a breather!

I love MS. The feeling you get and the visuals are unlike anything else in the world. It's a great experience. Not a ride, an experience. I say do it!

I am a roller coaster person, will get on anything there is. I would certainly do MS again, because I loved it, but it is by FAR the most intense ride I have ever been on. I came VERY close to using one of those barf bags.

My only advice, do it before, not after, eating.

I rode it twice last week and will say this:
it is nothing like a roller coaster. The launch sensation is something I had never felt before. The rest of it is like a flight simulator; kinda like Star Tours but not quite.
I would try it.
