Need to enter park before upgrading to AP?

I wanted to upgrade to an AP our first evening so I could purchse the TIW card and use it for dinner. We won't be going to the parks until the next day though. Is this possible? Thanks!

Sure, it's possible. You can upgrade at a ticketing window outside of the parks. Entering first then upgrading is only beneficial if your tickets were purchased at a discount.

Yes, they were purchased at a discount from Undercover Tourist. So I guess I should wait then?

Yup.

But, that should't be much of a problem.
Head to one of the parks (closest to you) and...
FIRST, use the ticket to go into the park.
THEN, immediately exit that park and go to the Guest Relations outside the park
and do the upgrade and purchase TIW.
Then, be on your way.

Unless you know you need the last day of the year of your Ap you can quickly enter the first evening and then upgrade and buy the TIW. Your AP will be good 1 year from the day you first use the ticket so if the rest of the family is upgrading the next day and not entering until then your AP will end a day before theirs but unless you plan your trip to end on the last day of the APs for everyone else (when yours won't be valid) it shouldn't matter if your date is off from everyone else by a day.

Exactly what I needed to know, thanks! We are entering Epcot through the IG so it should be easy. I'm basically upgrading for TIW. We have enough signature meals I feel it's worth it. Hope I can make it back within the year? Maybe we will finally give summer a try!

Epcot's IG has a ticket booth and Guest Relations that can do what you need.
