So, I posted earlier today about a problem with my washing machine. It turns out that fixing it is cost prohibitive, so I need to buy a new one. Going to the laundromat with a 2 year old toddler after working an 8 hour shift at work is NOT my idea of fun, so I hope to buy something tomorrow.

My front loader that just bit the dust was a barely 6 year old GE. At the time I bought it, it was one of their more expensive models. Based on my experience, I'm gun shy of buying another GE washer.

There are some things that I liked about having a front loader. For example, the clothes got clean without excessive wear, and they spun nearly dry in the washer requiring less drying time. But, I disliked having to leave the door open to let it dry out, and the silly thing always seemed to vibrate more than it should. But, I don't want another washing machine with an agitator either.

Any brand/model recommendations for me? I was debating on subscribing to Consumer Reports, but I don't know if it's worth the money to do so.

I have a Samsung front loader. I've had it about 3 years now, and have been very happy with it. You will still have to leave the door open to dry it out, but mine has never vibrated while running. It's very quiet actually. The particular model I bought was $899, but I was able to get the previous year's model at Lowe's for $749. Also, the wash barrel is huge. You can wash comforters, etc. with no trouble at all.

I subscribe to Consumer Reports Online and have for several years. I've used it recently to choose a new vehicle, a microwave, a washer, a dryer, a freezer, a refrigerator, a cell phone .... It's worth it to me, but I also read reviews on every site I can find.

If your washer vibrates excessively, it may not be level.

I chose a Kenmore front loader. I'm very happy with it. I would leave any machine open to dry out. I left my toploaders open when I had them.

I am on my 3rd set of Whirlpool Duet. We keep moving and I keep buying them because I like them so much. My current model has the steam option which is my type of ironing! :rotfl2:
Great products. I don't ever leave the door open and never had any smells or issues, I just take the last damp thing out of the washer before putting it in the dryer and wipe down the glass inside the door.

I have a Samsung front loader and love them also.

Ours also vibrated our floor a bit and after talking with a contractor friend, he recommended these:

The ones from the stores never worked, so we bought these and they work great. Watch the video and they explain it. So happy we bought them and I recommend them to everyone.

I do leave my door open a crack sometimes...But I also run a bleach load every few weeks and so no issues with smell.
