Need to be there at rope drop?

DH and I like to get a good breakfast when we are on vacation, and the kids really need it too...

We are considering doing the Deluxe DP which means we will have credits available to do breakfast buffets pretty much every day....

Do you think they will take up too much time? We can usually be out the door as a family by 7:30-8...

The need to be a rope drop depends upon the crowd levels. During our two trips during early November (2003 & 2005), the crowds were lighter and arriving an hour after opening did not effect our ability to do everything we wanted. Our last two trips (2008 & 2010) were during President's Week, being at rope drop (or within a few minutes of it) was absolutely necessary.

One day during our recent trip we decided to sleep in (a little) and arrived at DS an hour after openning. The lines at TSM, RNR and TOT were already at over an hour (TSM was nearly two hours). The Fastpass return times were already at 2 or 3 in the afternoon. In contrast, the day we arrived at DS at opening we were able to ride all three within the first two hours (using Fastpass of course).

It all depends on when you are going and the crowd levels. Rope drop is only really necessary for MK to see the 'show' @ rope drop (if they do one), and for DHS to get to TSM before the lines go bonkers. Last week we had minimal crowds and only needed to be @ rope drop for Toontown to avoid the long lines to see Tink & friends. If you want to do bfast and be there for rope drop in the MK, make and ADR for The Crystal Palace before park opening (~8).

This is a personal preference. DW has been trying to convince me to do a big breakfast at least once during one of our trips. I'd rather be at rope drop.

We do both! We do the first seating of the day for all out breakfasts and have never failed to make a rope drop. This trip we're doing bfast at Chef Mickey, Ohana, Tusker House, Crystal Palace and CRT.

You never really NEED to be at Rope Drop. You can arrive later in the day to any park. The reason to be at Rope Drop is to avoid waiting in long lines, and get the big rides done early before the lines build up. If you don't mind waiting in line for rides, then take your time at breakfast, and arrive at the parks when ever you want.

If you want to avoid those lines, and especially if you are going to be there during a busy time, then I would have to say you should get out the door a bit earlier, and get an early breakfast so you will be at the park as soon as it opens.

We love CP for breakfast, so we have an early breakfast there every time we go to MK. We get done with breakfast right around 9:00, so we are in the park right after rope drop. When we are going to the other parks, we grab a quick breakfast in the room, and make sure we are at the park in time for Rope Drop.

We like the character breakfast buffets as it gives us time to meet with the characters, and we can avoid standing in too many lines later in the day to meet with them. We set the character breakfast for around 10:00 AM, that way we get to the park when it opens and have an early morning break as well. If you do a breakfast buffet at a resort, make sure you add in the extra travel time.

This is such a personal thing I think. DH and I don't need to meet the characters but if you do it would probably be great to meet them at a breakfast instead of waiting for them while in the parks because it can take a lot of time. We did rope drop every morning except for one when DH wanted to try tonga toast and we both agreed that we love rope drop and find it almost an attraction in itself plus we are morning people so next time we will probably just do bagels in the room every morning and enjoy rope drop. Maybe try both see what works for you the best:thumbsup2

It depends on what you want to get done on your trip and time of year your going. Why do I say this, because "my opinion" is Deluxe DP takes a lot of time. Sit down breakfast, then stopping going on the rides to make sure you get to sit down lunch, then stopping ride again to make sure you get to your sit down dinner. We personally try to spend as much time in the parks as we can. We try to do about 2-3 sit down character meals per trip.

:thumbsup2ITA!! Try to get ADR's for pre park opening and you get to enter the park before anyone else! Makes for great pics.

We are doing:
Crystal Palace at 8:05, Chef Mickeys at 7:30a, Hollywood and Dine at 8:00a, and Tusker House at 8:00a.

The boys are early risers, so we like to be up and at 'em!

Have a great trip:wizard:

Ditto: most places have breakfast beginning at 7:30 and Chef Mickey's & GF Cafe begin serving at 7:00. We get to enjoy a great breakfast at a variety of different places and still make rope drop. It just doesn't get any better...:thumbsup2

If I make an ADR for Akershus for 8:05 do you think we will be able to make it out by 9:00?
