We are new members to DVC, just got our points at BCV. Just waiting for the paperwork to show up and get a Member ID.

We have an March Use year so we can bank 100% up until Aug 31.

I'd love to plan a short trip this year just 4 or 5 days..Either November or Dec in a BCV studio to 'try it out' but I doubt at this late date there is any availability.

If I put myself on a waitlist for a studio and it doesn't come thru before Aug do I loose my ability to bank those points?

I plan on calling Member service next week because thats when i'll be "in the system" but I thought I'd try the wealth of knowledge here ;-)

Thanks!!

Something may be available during Nov outside thanksgiving, I wouldn't hold much hope for Dec. Put pressure on your guide for the reservation, sometimes they can help out. If not, then get on the wait list and don't bank the points yet. Make yourself a note to bank late in August. If the wait list hasn't come through, go ahead and bank the points, you can always borrow next years points, but not the ones you banked, if the wait list comes through.

Try booking at OKW or SSR.Then waitlist for BCV.

I'd take Dean's advice - to recap and expand a bit:

Plan to stay on the waitlist until your Aug 31 banking deadline. If it doesn't come through, bank the points, but stay on the waitlist.

When the waitlist come through (let's be positive), then borrow 2007 points to make the reservation.

Risks of doing this:
If you cancel the November or December reservation that was made with borrowed points, the points will have to be re used before the end of your 2006 use year - that will be 2/28/2007. You can't return the points to their original use year.

The 2006 points you banked into the 2007 use year will have to be used before the end of your 2007 use year which is 2/29/2008. Of course this is also true if you bank and don't make the reservation at all.

Positives: This method gives you the longest time & best chance of having the BCV waitlist work for you.

No real negatives to this method either - you won't have any 2006 points at risk of expiring at the end of next February.

OTOH, if you just want to be at WDW during that time you have 2 other options to reserve something with your points -

Waitlist/Reserve at any DVC resort - there's a good chance this will work out for one of the larger resorts (SSR, OKW & BWV-PV).

Use your points to reserve one of the non-DVC WDW resorts. I don't personally recommend this because I don't think it is a good economic use of points, but it's better than staying home, LOL.

Good luck with the waitlist.

thank you for all the advice. I'm not sure why I didn't think about borrowing next year points. :duh

I will call and get on the waitlist for a studio at the BCV. We are happy to just wait for the waitlist to come thru rather than make a reservation anywhere else. We don't *have* to go..just thought it would be nice to check it out.

We are going for a wedding the end of this month and DH will probably be all disney'd out this year.
