Need Tips For Staying Healthy Before Trip

It sounds like your son might have a serious medical problem, IBD, colitis, Chrohn's (which can literally be fatal if not treated). I'd have a DOCTOR check him out to determine what the proper course of treatment is, rather than relying on your home remedy. What you are describing is NOT normal for a nine year old.

Might be, depends on the parents. That MOM treatement reminds me of something out of SYBIL......hmmmm, strikes a cord in my head, how about you?

Just a thought: if the cold symptoms arrive during every Florida trip, he may have a mold allergy. Make sure you stay in a room on the 2nd floor or higher, they tend to be less damp and less moldy.

I brought Zicam nasal tips for DS, but never needed to use them. I quarantined him for 2 weeks prior to the trip. He could only see his parents and grandparents, assuming no one was sick. My DH knows how paranoid I am about DS catching someone else's cold. I don't know what I'll do before our next trip because he'll be in preschool by then. I can't justify pulling him out of school too many days before the trip...or can I???

Having said that, he did get a yeast infection (jock itch type) during the trip and we had to run out to by lotrimin. Luckily, he's had it before I knew what to buy.

I think the only thing you can do is the usual good health routine. Give your kids vitamins, teach them to wash their hands, get lots of rest, and run screaming from any child or adult who even sniffles!:p

Maybe the best advice is to bring the children's Tylenol and cold meds along on the trip and hope for the best. DS had a fever on the flight back home and we pumped him with Tylenol, luckily, we never travel without it.

Good luck and don't stress too much about it. If your kids get sick in Disney, let them eat a Mickey Ice Cream bar to help them feel better. Heck, have one yourself too!:teeth:

I almost always get sick while I'm at WDW - a cold. My plan is to use Zicam before and during the trip this year. I too attribute it to the airplane.

I am a 1st grade teacher and believe me, I am surrounded by germs! Last September I started taking an herbal supplement called Astragalus.. They sell them in any GNC or vitamin store. I take 1 470mg tablet every morning. I swear, I have not had a bad cold all year. The most I have had is the feeling that you are going to get a cold but it never went any further. If I do feel like I getting sick, I'll double dose for a few days. These things are awesome!

My DH& I went to WDW last month. FIrst of all, I make vitamins regularly & get allergy shots ( that has helped me the most). We used antibacterial hand gel before eating. I washed my hands at least every hour & 1/2 when I used the ladies room ( I drink LOTS of h2o-obviously! LOL!). Here's how I caught a cold/sinus infection that developed on the plane ride home: On the plane ride to WDW, I sat next to a person who was coughing & sneezing the entire flight. And it was a full flight, so we couldn't move:(
At least it was the plane ride home & not on the trip...

My solution is simple and cheap! 1 cup of Orange Juice each morning. You can start 7-10 days before you go. Works great for me and my family.
