I'm new to this site, and I've been to WDW a few times already. My boyfriend is going with myself and the family in May '09, but it took a bit of convincing for him to join us. Does anyone have any helpful ideas for me to convince him that WDW is not just for kids and that adults can have fun there too?

P.S. I'm really enjoying this site! It's great! :earboy2:

My husband who isn't into rides loved Mission Space. (He was 49 at that time he rode it). There are many other rides that an adult can enjoy. Get a guidebook on Disney. There are several good ones out there. Some are even geared to adults. If he looks through the books he will see all the great things for an adult to do. He can even get opinions from adults about different attractions.

There are a lot of shows that adults can enjoy too as well as the stuff at Downtown Disney.

This board will help him too!

:welcome:

My BIL's family has never been to Disney, and when we suggested they go, he said... "Nah, the kids are too old for that now." The kids are 15 & 17, so I think a lot of people think it's just for little kids.

Does he like rides? I would go straight to some of the bigger rides in each park, first.

Have him choose from some of the more adult themed restaurants and also, plan an evening at Pleasure Island.

You can go on u tube and type in the names of the rides . My kids and i enjoy doing that when we are bored or on rainy days. it will give him some ideas as to the rides. We like looking up test track , mission space, thunder mountain, splash mountain just to name a few . thers alot of things to do at the resorts and on I-4 as well thinking bungie jumping thing , helicopter rides etc

My husband isn't a big fan of Disney (and that's an understatement). I have gotten him to go twice. Actually the second time he invited himself along on my solo trip, so I haven't been able to go by myself yet, but I digress. You didn't mention how old your BF is, but I "encouraged" my husband to go along by telling him he could spend some time each afternoon in the World Showcase at Epcot sampling some of the adult beverages while people-watching. It was a nice break and then we could continue on with the rides and shows. We did do this, but he also found out when he got down there that it's not just for kids - in fact - there are alot of rides that small kids can't even go on. There is also the Richards Petty Driving Experience, if he is into cars, a bit pricey, but maybe worth it. I'm sure you will get alot of suggestions here, so check back often.

Thanks to everyone for great advice. This will really help me to convince by boyfriend (who btw is 25, for those who did ask) that WDW is the greatest place to vacation! :cloud9:

:welcome: Me and my husband "thought" we weren't interested in Disney. Then we had dd and when she turned 6 she asked if we could one day visit Disney. So the dutiful parents that we are took her with the thought, ok, we'll do it for her! Well, four years later and you can't keep us away!!!! Tons of adult fun to enjoy, but I have to admit, we love ALL of Disney.

Couldn't help but notice you are from NYC. We live on Long Island. How do you plan to travel, car or fly? We always fly. It just seems easier and we usually get great rates from SWA!:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

I was 24 the first time I went to WDW. I loved Epcot (still do). Take him there. Also try Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney. Lots of entertainment aimed at adults there. It is hard to describe to someone the thrill of Disney. they have to experience it for themselves.

We always fly down to WDW, even though I am a petrified flyer! As much as I love driving, in the 2 1/2 hours it takes to fly to Orlando, we would only be in New Jersey! We will probably be taking Jet Blue. The boyfriend and I flew Jet Blue to Las Vegas, and we've been spoiled by them.

There is definately lots of things for adults to do. That's why even though we could have chosen anywhere (carribean, vegas, etc.) dh and I are going back to Disney this year for our anniversary trip (no kids just us).

Since you've been previously, you know that there are lots of things to do on property without even entering the parks! Of course there are great rides in each park that a 25 yr old guy can definitely enjoy... but he might also enjoy the golf options, the water parks, a bass fishing excursion, parasailing over Bay Lake, be sure to check out what's going on at WWOS - depending on what's going on next May, there could be a lot of events he could watch there, there's horseback riding and hayrides at FtW, carriage rides at POR, plus the various dinner shows (the luau at Poly is my favorite), or treat him to a day at the Richard Petty Driving experience there by the MK parking lot. There's definitely a LOT to do. I'm 37 and totally enjoy WDW, and it's NOT just for kids - it never has been.

We did our first trip in 1977, thought we had to see what Disney had in the way of an amusement park, our son was 6 then. We made another quick trip after that because it was so much fun, and there was only one park and 2 resorts. A few years go by and along comes a sister and we all go when she was 18 months. To fast forward this scenario, we've been to WDW 40 times, those two children have grown and married, daughter loved Disney so much she did the CP at Disney and after graduating college went back down to live and work for Disney for a year. We still do group vacations when the children can get off but lately its been just me and the wife and we're late 50's now and still enjoy WDW more than anything or place in America. It doesn't matter whether its the parks, boats, attractions or just lounging around the pool or resort, it's the most relaxing place to be with so many things to do right in the area with no car needed. You can pick a theme and spend your whole vacation immersed in a resort of splendor, eat so many different kinds of food, enjoy different kinds of sports a bus ride away or just seclude yourself in a book at the pool and forget time in general.

Disney World just for kids, I really beg to differ. Nothing brings a smile to my face or changes my attitude more than a vacation to WDW. Kid at heart, I guess I am but nothing washes away the stress of real life better than a stay at WDW.
