Hi all!! My dh and I are trying to decide on the best (i.e. cheapest) time to visit.
We are somewhat flexible on our dates like may, june, no july or aug. (to hot) sept-dec 2009.
Our ds's birthday is in September and I think that would be a wonderful birthday gift but dh is scared to go during hurricane season. He's afraid we'd get down there and get stuck and not be able to get back or something. Also his response is "I don't want to go when it's going to rain" I've told from what I've read on here it sometimes can rain everyday, but the showers are usually brief. Now keep in mind we live in Oklahoma and have tornadoe's and severe storms and have never been through a hurricane. I'm not opposed to going in September so can anyone give me THE REAL LOWDOWN on the weather in Florida.

Please ignore typo's I'm really tired. :surfweb:

Don't worry about rain or the hurricanes.

In spite of the media's hype, odds are way in your favor that a hurricane will not hit in Disney World no matter when you go.

With that said, I have gone to Disney in the summer, mostly August, every year since 1998 and have been through one hurricane while there..Charlie in 2004.

Charlie blew through, closed the parks early one afternoon (2PM) and everything was open for business as usual the next morning. It had virtually no effect on the vacation. (A selfish statement, I realize, because of the destruction it did to the residence of the area, but this is a Disney vacation board after all)

As for normal rain, yes, in the summer months, it does rain practically every afternoon, but all that does, in my humble opinion, is clear out the parks so that you can get more done!

Grab a poncho and head out in the rain! It'll be fun!

:scared1: September is the peak of the hurricane season. :scared1:
:scared1: On top of that it is very very hot:scared1:
:cool1: I think November or December if you stay away from the holiday days. :cool1:
:upsidedow I live in Floirda. I do NOT go to the parks in the that kind of heat. :upsidedow

Well...September is very hot and humid with almost daily thunderstorms and showers. They usually show up anywhere between 3-5pm and don't normally last very long. Unfortunately...they don't cool the temps down much...they only make the heat wet. Since the hurricane season is in full swing, there's always a chance of a storm but no one knows until a few days ahead...in most cases. As the temps cool down through mid October, the hurricane risk goes down with it...even though hurricane season runs until November 30. By the end of October and early November, the odds of a major hurricane are very slim due to the cooling waters...but it's anyone's guess.

Does that help at all?

I just wanted to mention in case you were unaware that if you do go during your DS's b-day, he will get into the park free that day or can choose from a number of free gifts including a $70 gift card from Disney.
