Ok, I confess! I'm a big chicken when it comes to the huge roller coasters and it turns out my 14 year old son is also not a fan. We are leaving on Saturday for a week at US/IOA. My husband and our 11 and 12 year old sons love the big rides and will be going off together to do their thing while my 14 year old hangs out with me. What smaller, tamer rides would you seasoned visitors recommend for us not to miss? We are staying at RPR and will have the FOTL pass. Thanks! :sunny:

Tracy

Spiderman 3D
Cat in the hat ride
Mummy- It's a rollercoaster, but doesn't do no flips or 360 turns.
The Unicorn
Jurrassic ride
Popeye water ride
Shrek it's a show
Jaws in the water
MIB
Woody woodpecker

Have a nice & fun trip :wave2:

That's one great thing about U and IOA is there are not too many rides you "chickens" have to miss. Probably just the 2 main coasters Hulk and Dragons, and the Doom Drop, all at IOA, (I love huge coasters but skip the drop myself, just not a fan of drop rides.) I really don't think there is anything in the old U park that you should or need to skip. The Mummy is the only thing remotely scary and I would highly recommend you riding this however, you will miss a truely great ride if you skip it. It is really more of a theme ride than a roller coaster. Its not really a roller coaster at all. It does get fast at the climax point, but its all indoors and not your normal twist and turn, go upside down type coaster, it just gets fast, so I think you guys can handle it.

Tame rides you can do, everything at the old park. At IOA Spider Man, Jurassic Park River Adventure (Best ride at IOA don't miss it!!), The Dr. Suess ride, the shows at the Lost Continent, the Triceratops adventure in Jurassic.

Dudley Du-right falls is a really great log ride type of thing. This would be the only other ride that comes to mind that may be on your maybe list. It does have a drop and you get a little wet. But other than that, just avoid the 2 main coasters and the Doom Drop and you'll be fine.

Oh and Tracy you will love the Royal Pacific, that's where I always stay, best hotel there in my opinion, and the cheapest. I would recommend asking for the top floor and an IOA view. Greatest view at the property. That's what I always request, that IOA lighthouse veiw is so cool and unique. That's one of my favorite things about going is that view of IOA from the R-Pacific.

Is this view available with a standard room and do you request this on check in or do you call the front desk in advance?

Everytime I've gone I just requested it on site at check in, but I may have gotten lucky everytime not sure. It's something that you may want to consider booking in advance just in case. I probably will just in case on my next visit coming up in a few weeks. And yes it is available for a standard room which is all I ever get. The standard rooms are great. To get this view I think it is mainly 1 or 2 buildings that face that direction so any room from about the 3rd floor up would probably have it. I like the top floor though for its a little better.

Thanks everyone for your replies! This helped me out a lot. Aztecgoods - We are very excited to be staying at RPR. We almost booked HRH but I really liked the whole tropical theme of RPR, not to mention I was cheaper. I will definitely ask for a room on the top floor with a view of IOA, but since we will not be checking in until probably after 6 p.m. on a Saturday, I'm guessing we'll be taking whatever they give us. Do you think it would help to call ahead? Thanks again!

It definitely couldn't hurt, as mentioned directly above, I have chanced it until now on asking for that area with the view, but I do think on my next trip I will call in advance and try and insure that I get that view for it adds so much to the room. So yes I would advise calling in advance. Till now I just requested it on the spot at checkin, but I may have gotten lucky everytime not sure. I am not taking any chances on my next trip so will book this part in advance. Have fun, I know you will. Just make sure you do SpiderMan ride, Jurassic Park boat ride and if you can stomach it the Mummy.

I'm a big ride wimp like you and I absolutely *HATED* the mummy and would never ride it again. It was just too scary for me. You've been warned! :thumbsup2

I would NOT miss, however, Spiderman 3D! It is the greatest ride ever. If it gets too intense for you or your kids, just look away. A great ride for wimps like me! :cool1:

I am a whimp as well, I was fine withthe mummy as the bit I do not like are the drops, it does go fast and is quiet dark and intense, but not drops. There are not any other rides you are unlikey to want to avoid at SSO.

Hmmm, IOA I won't do dueling dragons, Hulk, Dr Doom, I hav3n't done the water one either yet but would like to know what the drop is like itf anyone knows, not just how long it is, but how steep it is. I can't do splash mountain at WDW :(

I'm a ride wimp as well. although I ride the Mummy (for my daughter or I would avoid it), there is NO WAY I would ever get on the Jurrasic park River adventure OR Dudley Do-right falls because they both have a massive drop at the end. and I don't do straight down drops. no how, no way. :sunny:

I may try the mummy ride then if it doesn't have any drops. I don't mind twists and turns and speed, it's the drops I don't like. I'm definitely not doing the Jurassic Park ride though. We went to Universal Studios in Hollywood a couple of years ago and my husband and kids went on it and said it does have a big drop at the end. I'm going to call RPR today and make a room request and see what they say.

Let us know what they say on the room view request, I'll be anxious to hear since I will be doing this too soon. As for the drops, I know my opinion is a little skewed since I love huge coasters, but in my opinion the drops on Jurassic Park and Dudley do rights are no big deal, they are not even 100 feet, I think you could handle it, Jurassic Park is a great ride, maybe the best with Spider man, you shouldn't miss it, and they are very very safe, just duck and cover on the drop and you won't feel a thing trust me.

I am such a whimp but US I do all but the Mummy ride in. I don't really do any of the rides in IOA except Cat in the hat (I did it 20 in one day last time I went) and the underwater show thing but then I don't like drops so Dudley do rights out and so is the Jurassic park one.

I am a ride chicken of rollercoasters and I love water rides at other parks. With that said, I was at IOA for the 1st time in July and rode Jurassic Park. Never again. I closed my eyes as soon as we went over the drop and starting counting very slowly. I had reached the count of 7 before we hit the water. Never again. Other than the drop, the ride was nice. I think they ruined it with the 80 ft drop.

Well I called the hotel directly today to try to get my Loews First number added to our reservation (I didn't have one at the time we booked) and also to add our room request. They couldn't do either because we booked a Funjet package through AAA. I called our AAA travel agent and she said all she could do is add a note to our reservation with my Loews First number and our room request. So, we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that we can get a good room or an upgrade at check in. I'm also hoping to get the Loews First 3 hour late checkout since our airline changed our departing flight from 4:10 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.! Ugh!
