We are visiting Disney World for the second time as a family this fall. It's me, my husband, and 2 daughters who will be 6 and 4. We are staying at The Contemporary - Bay Lake Towers. We're trying to choose a few sit down restaurants so we can make advance reservations. What would you recommend or what are your "don't miss out" restaurants? We are open to character and non character restaurants, but you'll see we did all character dining last time, and are interested in trying something a little different this time around.

Last year, we did table service at the following:
Cinderella's castle - dinner
Akershus - breakfast
Chef Mickey's - dinner
Hollywood and Vine - lunch
Be Our Guest - dinner

Thanks!

We love the following restaurants - besides where you ate already:
EPCOT -
Via Napoli -excellent Pizza
Garden Grill - character meal but great food

At the Beach Club - we love Cape May for breakfast - character meal - also for dinner but not a character meal.

HS
Sci Fi - our kids love sitting in cars to eat. Plus the food is good.
50s Prime Time - they have excellent shakes.

AK
Tusker House - character meal - plus it is really good
Sanaa (at the AK lodge) - you can get a table near the window to watch the animals
Boma (at the AK lodge) - buffet with excellent food

MK
Besides BOG we love Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch.

Enjoy your trip.

Many like to try some new things on repeat trips while mixing in some old favorites.

At Epcot, many kids like watching the fish in the aquarium tanks at Coral reef or watching the chefs cook at the table in Japan.
tusker house has a good buffet and characters at the AK and most kids love the rainforest with its exotic atmosphere also.
At Disney Springs there's another rainforest cafe and a TRex place popular with families.
At the Mk we liked Tonys but its not universally liked reading some of the other comments.

I'd encourage you to try a few new ones as there are more good ones out there. You seemed to do very well last time as a first timer too so trust your instincts.

My Fav restaurants:
The contemporary:
The Wave

Grand Floridian:
Grand Floridian cafe
Citricos

Wilderness:
Whispering Canyon

Poly:
Kona

Yacht Club:
Captains Grille

Boardwalk:
Trattoria Al Forno

OHANA (right next door at Poly) - breakfast is a character meal, but dinner is much better (imho) and has lots of entertainment for the kiddos.
BOMA - Breakfast, then check out the animals
HOLLYWOOD and VINE - Minnie's Fall dinner (whichever she's hosting this fall). Best character interaction ever!)
and last but not least
HOOP D DO review. (I think my spellings off, but you know where I mean. Lol) Take the boat over, do not drive or bus, too big a pain. Great show, loads of fun!

I'd suggest Crystal Palace or Tusker House for characters, since you didn't do those last time.

Maybe Via Napoli or Mama Melrose, 50s PT or Sci Fi, and Boma or Wave?

*50's Prime Time Cafe at Disney Hollywood - We eat there on every trip. Home style food. Great fried chicken dinner.
*Sci-Fi at Disney Hollywood - The atmosphere is the best thing about this place. Everyone should eat there at least once. It's set up like a drive- in movie. For us, the food is just okay. It's not bad, it's just "okay". Unique atmosphere.
*Coral Reef at Epcot - This place gets a lot of mixed reviews BUT we had really good meals there. Great atmosphere with large indoor aquarium. You can watch the sharks & fish swim as you dine. We requested seating next to the aquarium last time, but you can see the aquarium no matter where they seat you. I had a really good steak there and the Jack Daniels chocolate mousse for dessert. Loved it.

tusker house breakfast! absolutely amazing and no better way to start your day in AK.
We also were very impressed with Sanaa. Eating dinner while you watch zebra and giraffe walk around just outside your window can not be beat.
there are some reviews of our dining in my trip report below!
have a great trip!

For the kids, I would consider:
Epcot: Coral Reef so they can enjoy the aquarium during dinner
The Poly: 'Ohana breakfast. It is fun!!
1900 PF at the Grand, either breakfast or lunch. Different character experiences, both very good
DHS has Minnie's seasonal meal at H&V. I have always avoided this one, but it has gotten decent reviews lately
Epcot: Garden Grill. Who doesn't like the Chipmunks, and this restaurant overlook The Land. It is pretty cool
AK: Tusker House. Character meal with a little character!
Beach Club: Cape May breakfast. I have never been, but I spent 10 days walking past in the morning. It looked very laid back, and more relaxed than Chef Mickey.

For the adults to enjoy:
We like
Mama Melrose in DHS
Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club
Sanaa at AKL (Kidani Village)
Rose & Crown in Epcot
Via Napoli in Epcot

Being you are in the MK vicinity, here are a few of our faves close by...The Wave breakfast buffet and lunch, Kona all meals, Ohana dinner, Grand Fl. Cafe dinner and Trails End breakfast buffet. Will throw in Whispering Canyon Cafe breakfast for fun. If a diner show is in the mix, Hoop Dee Doo Review
Parks...Liberty Tree Tavern lunch, San Angel Inn(must do every trip), Nine Dragons(Honey Sesame Chicken, no need for ADR, usually a walk up), Via Napoli(Piccante Pizza), Biergarten, Rose N Crown(prefer lunch menu), 50s Prime Time Cafe(this is a must do every trip), Flame Tree BBQ(dont need a ADR for this, IMO, its the best place at AK)
Resorts not near MK...Maya Grill, ESPN(cant make an ADR here), Olivias(all meals)

Our favorites -

MK- BOG dinner and the Plaza are really the only TS places in MK that we really enjoy. BOG dinner is just amazing!

Epcot - Garden Grill dinner is probably my favorite character meal in WDW. We do it each trip!
Akershus breakfast is our favorite and I see you've done that
Via Napoli

AK - Yak & Yeti is a great restaurant. We always have a nice dinner here.

Disney Springs - Raglan Road

Resorts- Kona and Grand Floridian Cafe for breakfast
Cape May Cafe - we love both breakfast and dinner here
Hoop Dee Doo Revue! We do this show every trip! Love it!

MK- Crystal Palace (Pooh and friends) breakfast and Liberty Tree Tavern dinner
Epcot- Akershus (Princesses) breakfast and Via Napoli dinner- their pizza is really good!!
AK/DS- Rainforest Café lunch or dinner
HS- Sci-Fi Drive-In lunch or dinner, 50's Prime Time café lunch or dinner and Hollywood n' Vine (Disney Jr friends) breakfast
