Need Suggestions

The suspense is killing me. Where did you decide to purchase, how many points and what UY?

We bought at Saratoga Springs. :cool1: We have 220 points with an October UY. It came with all 2008, 2009 and 2010 points in reservation status (660 points available now). The points will expire Sept 30, 2010.

We will have to find *some* way to use the 660 points before they expire. :rolleyes1 The "Rule of 4" applies, so we are hoping to close quick so we can book a Disney cruise, although I don't know the chances of us being able to BOOK a cruise in May (hoping we close fairly quickly) and travel in June or July.

Of course, this all depends on Disney not using their ROFR. :scared1:

if you have excess points you can rent them out. There are folks on the boards who can help rent the extra ones. like say you have 200 points this year you cant possibly use. These folks will rent them at say $14 a point and you get like $10 and they get the $4 pp commission for handling all the details

This is just a general example, but it may help you spend the points you cant spend. and earn you back some money in the process

I didn't know that! Thanks for the information!

By the way...love the dog! It looks just like my Blue Lacy.

Congratulations and welcome to the neighborhood. I think that you will enjoy SSR. And you still have the option of staying at the other DVC resorts. As I indicated earlier, we have stayed at SSR three times and have never had a bad stay there. I have read tons of negative things about SSR and just have never experienced it during our trips. Our last vacation to WDW we stayed at the Tree House Villa's and loved the units. One thing that you will want to do when you want to stay at another resort is to make reservations for the time that you want at SSR. Then wait list for the resort that you really want to stay at. Member services can automatically cancel the SSR reservation and reserve the resort that you really want when it becomes available. Here is a thread for SSR that you may want to browse when you have time. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1329308

If you still need help using those points let us know. We are always available for a trip to WDW.

I will certainly let you know if we need help with our points. :)

I am waiting on our contracts to be sent. Then what's next?

By the way, that link to SSR was great! I am finding out I should stay away from Carousel and Springs is in a great location.

I am hoping to resort hop. Can't wait to be able to make our first reservations. The October 2010 points were borrowed. When will I be able to book a reservation with our October 2011 points?

With everybody talking about how easy it is to be finance with Disney, I may just go ahead and buy AKV through Disney too. HA! My hubby would just about roll over and die! Too much too soon????

You can borrow 2011 points in Oct 2010 since you will be in the 2010 use year....but you can book oct 2010-sept 30 2011 anytime once you are a member...(AKA you can book before you can borrow the points, you just have to book during a time when you can borrow)

We sent our contract off, along with our deposit, by FedEx today. I am waiting for the seller's contract. Then it's off to Disney for approval. Praying...praying...praying. :)

We received the seller's contract yesterday and was told it went to Disney. Now we are waiting to see if they will use their ROFR.

if this helps at all, we own at ssr. we bought from disney directly so we didn't have a choice, however we are pleased w/ssr ownership. honestly it was cheaper (and is still cheaper through resale) to buy and the yearly fees are less than many others in resale.
here are some things to consider:
-you take a bus from most resorts to most parks so what difference will it make long term whether your bus ride is 10mins or 13 mins?
-ssr has a boat to DTD which is a great night time alternative to the parks. also great for lunch and the boat is an event in itself. also you can walk to dtd if you are ambitious
-the main pool at ssr is great (zero entry, baby water slide, big water slide) but there are 3-4 other pools as well so even on our april break visit that coincided w/both easter and new englands spring break, the resort never felt crowded and many pools were nearly deserted
-the artist's pallatte is quick service but i find the food to be much better than other quick service places...more fresh and gourmet
-after a long day at a very crowded park, it's nice to relax at ssr. it always seems quiet and removed from the park hubbub
-keep in mind that your home resort isn't where you have to stay. we have stayed at okw, bcv and our latest trip will be at akv. i haven't had a problem getting into the resort i wanted even at the 7month window. granted sometimes you have to have a backup plan but we've never needed it.

good luck w/your choice. i am sure that whatever you pick for your home resort, you will enjoy being a dvc owner
