OK guys, a challenge for you: I'm considering going to DLP with my feller and my mother some time early September, and want to know where to stay. I'm a student, so I'm on a relatively tight budget, but I have a bit saved up and would really love to take my mother to Disney, as she's taken me on so many holidays in the past. It would be nice if we could have separate rooms, so she doesn't have to share with dbf (I don't think she'd mind, it'd just be good to give her some space of her own), but that will of course add to the cost. Oh, and I use a wheelchair for distances, which means I need to be able to get the thing into the room, but don't need an accessible room (one step in/out is fine, a flight of them, not so good).
My mother and I are old pros at WDW but we've never done Paris before, so I don't quite know what I'm up against.
So, what do you reckon; where should we stay?

TIA :goodvibes

Well, the cheapest Disney hotel is the Santa Fe but of course it's the furthest one away.:sad2: Disney do have specially adapted transport which you can arrange through the hotel so hopefully the distance wouldn't be a problem.

All the on-site hotels are easily walkable along with a wheelchair as well as served by shuttle buses and as Elaine says special transport.
Have a look at the Hotel FAQ as you have a range of options which you will need to balance price with distance from the park.
If I was looking for 2 rooms and on a budget both Hotel Cheyenne and Santa Fe would be on my list :thumbsup2

Hey, I posted here yesterday, where's it gone? That's weird. I guess I must have hit the wrong button, or something. Oops

Anyway, the gist of the original message was: Firstly, thanks for all the help so far. Cyrano, when you say all the on-site hotels are walkable (or wheelable, in my case) does that include Davy Crocket, or not? That one would be perfect for us. My mother could have her own space, and I would have the option of cooking for myself (I'm a veggie too, just to be really, really awkward :)). However, I wouldn't feel happy driving on the wrong (:rotfl:) side of the road and I don't want to ask my mother to play chauffeur.

If we don't go for DCR, I was looking at Santa Fe (mainly for the price). Has anyone stayed there, and if so, what did you think?

Thanks everyone!

There are no shuttle buses serving the DCR and as it is a 15 minute drive would not be walkable unfortunately :confused3

Hi there
We've stayed at the Santa Fe - it's good, clean, no frills accomodation. It suited our needs, somewhere to wash and sleep, we don't spend an awful lot of time in the hotel other than for that.
My personal opinion though is spend that little bit more for the Cheyenne, it's got superb theming and it's a favourite of many of the members on here.

The Santa Fe rooms have 2 double beds, Cheyenne - 1 double and a set of bunk beds. :)

It's only £78 difference between the two (for all 3 of us for 5 nights) so I'll keep that one in mind. At this stage everything still depends on whether I'm earning over the summer; if I am, that difference shouldn't be too much of a hassle. I just really want to give my mother the most magical experience possible (she's a Disney fanatic just like me). Any more suggestions, recommendations or ideas would be really appreciated.

Thank you so much guys! This is why :disrocks:

I would say Hotel New York, it cost a little bit more, but it's so nice... And it's very close to the parks, you just have to walk through Village...

The New York would be perfect but it's not very good if you're on a budget, same with my personal favourite the Sequoia Lodge. If you're on a budget then it's between the Santa Fe or the Cheyanne. I've stayed at the Santa Fe a couple of times and it's fine as a place to lay your head on a night but the rest of the facilities, including the restraunt are less than brilliant.

Let's face it though, with Disney it doesn't really matter where you stay, you'll have a fantastic time :thumbsup2

I think New York is a bit beyond my budget, though I will keep it in mind in case I get a well paid summer job, so thank you for the recommendation.

Headzila, you said you weren't keen on the restaurant and facilities in Santa Fe, was there anything specifically wrong with them, or were they just not as nice as you might like?

I am sorely tempted by Sequoia Lodge, having a swimming pool is a real draw for us for a start, but the price might be a bit too much on my budget, I'm not yet sure. Please feel free to try and over-rule my 'sensible side', it needs over ruling occasionally, especially where Disney is concerned ;).

Thanks guys!

I just thought it was a little disorganised and a bit of a free for all. I've got to admit that I only ever went in there for breakfast and it was a little on the crazy side with people running everywhere and it's a little difficult to find a table. Might just be my perceptions of it.

The pool is fantastic at Sequoia and is well worth the extra cash

Sequoia is also very nice (been there to) and yes the pool is good but very small (it looks a lot bigger in the pics) Sequoia is also very close to the parks, it's faster to walk then to take the bus.
The pool at New york is heated up because it's an indoor/outdoor pool, its bigger then the one at Sequoia but not as good looking.

In my opnion the Santa Fe is a superb choice if you are on a budget. You'd need to make sure you got an accessible room though because some are up a flight of stairs (The Santa Fe complex is like a little village made up of loads of 2 storey blocks with a number of rooms in each block). There are lifts to the first floor - but I remember seeing lots of steps too.

Breakfast is chaotic in the Santa Fe - but not horrendous. It's a huge room with lots of tables and lots of people and usually tons of kids. You can easily get a table but at first glance it just seems overwhelming.

If the weather is good the walk round to the parks from the Santa Fe is lovely, passing the lake and the other hotels.

I wouldn't have any problems recommending the Santa Fe based on my experience. The room is basically an ensuite with two double beds - so you'll have to take that into account when making the final decision.

Thanks everyone, this is all really helpful :disrocks:! We're going in September, so I'm hoping it will be a little quieter as all the schools should be back by then. Thank you for the tip about the stairs, I'll enquire about that one. I'm leaning towards going for a value hotel and saving the money for a few little extras while we're there, but if anyone has an persuasive arguments for another place, I'd love to here them.

Thanks again guys!:thumbsup2

I think if you are on a budget - then going for the cheaper hotel and using the savings to do those little extras that cost (like a character breakfast) is the best idea. You don't spend that much time in the hotel anyway. As long as it's clean, warm, and comfy - all it is is a base for the park.

Thanks for reassuring me :thumbsup2. Yes, it would be nice to be able to splash out, get the best hotel and give us all a real treat, but I think it would be nicer to be able to eat next term :rotfl:.

Ah, if only I had the money for DLR. Maybe someday :cloud9:
