My wife is retiring from 33 years in the military & requested to have her retirement party at DL in November. We have a total of 25 people, 15 adults and 10 kids ranging in age from infant to 16.
We're staying at VGC, but others are staying off site.

I'd like to have a party with dinner or appetizers one night somewhere on property that won't be outrageously expensive. Probably unrealistic. I looked at the Jazz Kitchen, which require $45 per person minimum. That seems to be the least expensive I've found.

An other ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

They were having private parties every day we were there at VGC in the outdoor courtyard near the entrance to downtown Disney. It might be expensive but maybe you could check with the hotel about an appetizer and drinks reception. The courtyard is very pretty and woodsy.

Try the Rainforest Cafe--they are surprisingly reasonable. I haven't done anything at the one in Downtown Disney, but my husband threw my 40th birthday at the one in Fisherman's Wharf, and he said the prices were surprisingly good. They did a lovely job, too. They also might be willing to do a breakfast or a lunch, which might cut your costs some.

Also, I think Mimi's Cafe, which is an easy walk away, has a private room--you might check. They are also very pleasant.

As a VGC guest you have access to the gas grills in the patio between the villas and the park. The grills are seldom used, so you could have a nice afternoon barbecue. This might not replace a party, but could be another retirement event.

Great ideas! I hadn't even thought about the Rainforest Cafe. The courtyard at VGC is already booked and I'm sure beyond my price point anyway. Would be nice though!

The courtyard is part of the hotel and is not related to VGC.

I don't know if a picnic is your thing, but I came across this page while I was looking for something else--it has contact info for an on-site picnic: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/plan/guest-services/picnic-area/
