Need suggestions for removing wallpaper

My DH is trying to remove border, and has tried everything we can think of....

steamer
hot water & Vinegar
DIFF
fabric softner

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

DIF, you just have to use a TON and let it sit forever.....we had fabric wallpaper on one wall when we moved in, it took us 2 days to remove it....

I'm interested in this too, since DH tried hot water and fabric softener and it didn't really take it off. Although, I was talking to someone about it and they asked if we really really saturated the area with the solution and DH didn't really do a good job of saturating so he has to try that. hope that helps.

The only thing I tried that would take ours off was Windex. My mom read about it in a magazine. I pull off the actual paper and am left with the papery/pasted background. I Spray a ton of Windex, elt it sit for about 5 min and then use a plastic scraper or plastic spatula to test an area. I usually have to saturate once more before I scrape. Some sections have come off really easily, and some look like I litleraly worked with one findernail because it was stuck on so well. I had no luck with fab. softener and the smell also burned by nostrils so I couldn't use it. Good luck!

I will tell DH to try Windex! The DIF stuff starting working some, but our walls are textured and it's also taking off the texture. Thanks for your advice, ladies!

My Dad uses Downy mixed with water. Seems to work pretty well. You really have to soak it, though.

I always use fabric softener and hot water, plus it helps a lot to score the paper really well.(cut a bunch of random lines through the paper)

This is really important! It almost doesn't matter what kind of solution you use, just remember to score the paper well. We used a saw. Just scrape the teeth of the saw across the paper...all over, and then apply the solution liberally. they do sell scoring tools if you don't have a saw.

We have just tackled the border in our living room(been up for about 4 years) and wallpaper up our stairwell.(not sure how long it was there, it was already there when we bought our house in 2003. That stuff was on there good. We used a spray bottle of water and completely saturated it and then we used this remarkably handle gadget bought at Wal-Mart called a wallpaper scraper. It took it of in a jiffy and didn't damage the wall. Good luck with your venture, I know it's frustrating!

Did you use that little "cutter" tool first? Round with little blades on it. You run it over the wallpaper and then spray it. Lets whatever spray you use soak in better.
