I need suggestions.

My 5yo son is a fussy eater. He will not eat sandwiches. Not PB, not PB&J, not lunchmeat, not cheese. He likes some fruits, pasta, chicken nuggets, and almost all breakfast foods.

We would like to eat most of our lunches in our hotel room (to save money and time). Our room will have a mini-refrigerator (no freezer) and we can arrange to have a microwave oven.

Any suggestions?

If you're going to have a microwave and he likes pasta, how about those little Chef Boyardee microwave bowls of spaghettios or shells with meatballs? Or even the Bon Appetite (?) pasta bowls, you just add water.

My DD is a wicked picky eater too. Pretty much eats nuggets, strawberries & waffles & yogurt.

That might work. Do they need to be refrigerated or frozen?

It also gives me an idea - there are kids-type microwavable TV dinners.

We will have to experiment before our trip.

My kids love the kid cuisine. I get them for when I have to work and hubby's cousin watches them.

Those little bowls don't need to be in the fridge or in the freezer. They are usually sold in the same aisle as the mac & cheese at the grocery store. Or near the packages of rice, pasta roni, that kind of stuff. I think the Kid Cuisine is frozen like Lean Cuisine.

So give him a bowl of cereal and a banana for lunch. Easy to keep and fix! Nutritous and it is only for vacation(short period of time) so who cares. My nephew had popcorn for lunch everyday for a week when we had him to Disney when he was little. Grew up fine.

Yogurt? Peanut Butter & Crackers? Baby carrots?

I'm 40 now, but I survived thru much of grade school on the same lunch almost every day. It was a banana, carrots & celery, peanut butter crackers, a hostess ding dong, and milk.

If you are not far from your food court, you could microwave or
toast there & bring it back to your room.

Lunchables now makes Chicken Dunks...basically cold chicken nuggets that can be dunked in ketchup. These have to be kept refrigerated, but have saved me many times. The box comes complete with a juice box and a Go-Gurt type snack. Luchables also makes "put it together yourself" pizza, if your son likes that (sauce and cheese on the side). I'm with you all the way. My DS (7) has been a very picky eater from the beginning while my DD(3) has always eaten everything...go figure :confused3 .

We went to Disney in Feb and when all else failed my DS had Carnation Instant breakfast- fast, easy and healthy. I took the individual packets and got milk from the food court and mixed it up. :thumbsup2

You can buy these corn dogs that are great in the microwave or oven (ok, not great, but pretty good for a microwave food!) I believe the brand is foster farms or something like that, with the red little barn symbol I believe. YUM! (and easy too! :thumbsup2 )

If you have the ref. & microwave then try pancake on a stick. My DS6 and DH love them. A pancake wrapped around a breakfast sausage. They come frozen but you defrost before you can microwave them. 45 seconds and breakfast! :rotfl2:

Well, I took a lot of the suggestions here, went to the store and bought about $30 worth of pre-prepared kids meals. Here's my report:

Kid Cuisine ($2.79) - while the packaging was attractive to the kids, the meal wasn't. In the chicken nugget meals (two types of kid cuisine were tried), the fussy eater tried the mac&cheese and didn't like it (he's used to Kraft-brand yellow cheese, small macaroni), the pudding wasn't completed, and he refused to eat the corn. The nuggets were eaten, but only after some serious prodding. The package requires a freezer for storage, but probably would be ok in the fridge for a day or so. The plastic cover was sort of difficult to tear as instructed. Requires a microwave to prepare. D+ for expense, need for freezing, difficult preparation (for a hotel room setting), poor acceptance by fussy eater.

Hormel Mac&Cheese ($1.09) - requires no refrigeration. Requires a microwave to prepare. Preparation was simple. However, the fussy eater didn't like it at all. D+ for poor acceptance by fussy eater.

Lunchables - Pizza ($1.79) - Makes 3 small cheese pizzas Stores in the fridge, not the freezer. requires a microwave to prepare. Mildly difficult to prepare. Fussy eater actually finished 1/2 of a 3" diameter pizza before declaring that he didn't like it. C+

Spaghettios ($0.79) - Feeds at least two kids. No refrigeration required, but need a microwavable bowl and a can opener. Easy prep. Fussy eater ate 3 spoonfuls before declaring that he didn't like it. However his brother discovered that he liked spaghettios. C+

Lunchables Chicken Mega Pack ($3.49) - A neat all-inclusive box lunch. Contains 4 chicken nuggets, dipping sauce, bottled water, koolaid mix for the water, cheese nips crackers and air-heads candy. Package is stored in the fridge, not the freezer, and is ready-to-eat, but heating the chicken nuggets is optional. Fussy eater liked the koolaid, ate the chicken with some podding, but didn't want the candy or the crackers (but his brothers did). The cost is the drawback here. B-.

Easy Mac ($0.79). Requires no fridge. Can be made without microwave - could use coffee maker to heat water. Easy to prep - comes in its own bowl. makes one small serving. Makes the small macaroni, yellow cheese Kraft mac and cheese that he's used to. HE ATE IT WITHOUT COMPLAINT!! A+ for low cost, ease of prep and storage, and acceptability by the world's fussiest eater.

I can augment the Easy Mac with fruit (grapes and bananas) and a glass of milk. Still need some protein though...
