I need to purchase a lightweight stroller for my 5 yr old for upcoming disney trip-
Any recommendations? She is tall for her age and weighs approx 51 pds-
Thanks

My DS5 was sure that he didn't want to use a stroler on this past trip in May. Fine with me but don't start fussing! On the 5th day (our last day) at Epcot, I mentioned renting a single stroller for the day just to hold some of my stuff and he was thrilled. He weighed about 41 lbs. at the time. The single rental strollers are nice plus they offered us a deal for use on several days but we declined. DS5 never whined about the non use of the stroler the other 4 days of the trip. Ready to go back!:earsgirl:

I love having a stroller to hold my bags and things and it is great for when you want to get across the park fast with a slow walker. I have read a lot of different posts on what to do about strollers. One thing I noticed was that people had a hard time folding their strollers and bringing them on the shuttles so keep that in mind if it applies to you. I love my big convertable stroller. It is the kind that came with an infant carrier that locks on. My DD is 4 and 40 lbs and we just used it a few weeks ago at Sesame Place in PA. This style is great because it has a storage area underneath. Good luck!

Hi Beka'sMom
I have been asking this question as well (same boat DD5 at 50 pounds and 46 inches). When I asked on the boards I got a lot of votes for Maclarens either the volo or triumph depending on $. Their website says it holds up to 55 pounds recomended but I have a friend that uses hers now at 60 and it works great. Let me know what you get and if it worked in Disney. I would love 1st hand info. Thanks!

I would second the Volo for a 5 year old - it's not got cup holders or big baskets (it has a small basket), but it can take the weight, it's easy to push and it folds up small for getting on buses etc

We have a MacLaren and LOVE it! It's comfy for my son, folds down easy and wipes down quick. A bit pricey, but worth every penny.

I don't have one but I just read an article about a mom in NYC with a MacLaren and the wheels fell off in the middle of the road! She has been having the worst possible time getting a replacement. I also saw a news story on the same issue. I hope yours holds up!

I finally broke down and ordered a Volo with accessory pack. It was a great deal $103 with everything no tax or shipping. I am nervous buying sight unseen but we will see when it gets here. I also feel dorkey about buying my 5year old a new stroller when she walks everywhere but it will give me an excuse to go back to disney before she grows completely out of it.:D:crazy:

We rented a stroller for our DD6, at first she refused and when I rented it she was so thankful and so was my DH. She gets tired after a long day of walking and plus we were able to put our water bottles and other things in it when she wasn't. If you are not going to use the stroller again I would not purchase one to bring, I would rent one. If you park hop save your receipt and you do not need to pay for another one just show your receipt and they will give you one at the park you are at. We have done that the last few times we were there and it worked out well. Did not have to worry about lugging my own.

Have a magical time.::MickeyMo

Hi there
Just got the Volo in the mail. Let me tell you it is soo cool. I got the accessory pack too so it has the canopy My 47 inch tall DD (50lbs) fits great. There is a ton of room between her head and the canopy. At least 7 inches. The stroller goes great even with her weight. So nice. I want to go to the mall or somewhere to try it out but I know if I go I will spend $ at DS.:D which I do not want to do now since I just got my DS.com order yesterday.lol. Ok my 2 cents is that the volo is great and I wish I had taken the plunge way before now.

Anyone know the cost of renting a single/double stroller? I've always brought my own, but might not have room in the car this trip. I was just wondering and working on my planning!

We rented strollers for DD5 and DD3 last year - brought a full one for a baby - they were a life saver- Seems like it was $7-8 for a single and $15 for the double - but you get $1 back if you hand-return the stroller at the end of the day - it was worth it - when they were out of it, we put our stuff in it - when they were in it, they weren't whining! When we lined up to watch the parade an hour in advance, they just sat and people-watched while we took turns going in to shops and picking up hotdogs - they were shaded and happy therefore, so were we!

Just purchased the chicco capri stroller today at babies r us (49.99)- did not want to invest the extra $ for the macclaren at this point since I do not use a stroller much anymore-

She seems to fit in it comfortably even thought the weight limit states 37 lbs- wheels are large, has a great storage basket, and is lightweight at 11 lbs!

princess: I know I'm a little late here, since it looks like you already bought your stroller. But for the other parents I just wanted to suggest the new Silver Cross Micro. This is a great stroller for bigger kids. It is similar to the Maclaren Volo but with bigger wheels, a hood and a better basket. I just wanted to give you all a heads up on this new stroller, it is really great and can be bought for about $99.00.
hope this helps someone!

OK now I do ot feel so bad:D I looked at it and it looks great. Just like the Volo with the accessory pack included. The only thing (and what saves me from being upset) is that it says it only holds 40 pounds. The volo actually advertises 55 which means to me that I can abuse it and keep my DD in a stroller as long as I still bring extra stuff to the parks and need a stroller to carry it. LOL
