Alright, so... my Drama teacher gave us this assignment that we had to either sing, dance, lip-synch or preform a skit from something that has been on Broadway. im sick so there's no way i couldve sung something, but a friend and i decided to lip-synch to Defying Gravity from Wicked.

Now although i love the play, i've never actually SEEN it. things have been messing up in that class, and i really need this grade to be good. he's grading mostly on how convincing we are. how in character we stay. im lip-synching the part of Glinda, so it's not like i have a ton of things to say, but i find myself kind of...standing there most of the time, watching my Elphie prance around the stage singing.

i know some of you have seen and like the show more than i do, so i thought "what better place could i go to for advice than these guys?" i have to preform tomorrow (well maybe...we have a big class) and although i can do great.."faces" i feel out of it. any advice would be much loved and appreciated! :goodvibes

Defying gravity is about elphaba. not glinda. I've never seen the show, live, but I've seen parts of it taped. The begining and ending have glinda. everything else is totally elphie. I dont' know, but I'd probably use another song, that has equal parts for both of you. :confused3

ETA, I would do What is this feeling. Elphie and glinda go back and fourth, and it would be fun to work with taht. :confused3

we actually chose that song on purporse for the fact that i despise acting infront of that class, and that ive been absent from school a lot due to being sick. it was easier for me to have a smaller set of lines to remember. but my drama teacher said itd be good for the challenge of how i am reacting to everything she says. *sigh* i wouldnt have time to choose another song even if i wanted to ><.

oh. well, I do a lot better with improve and I love being in front of people, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But My advice is just to stay in character. That is the main point of this. What does glinda do when elphie says this? Work like that.

You've asked the right Tinkerbelle honey! :teeth:

Defying Gravity is hard to act. And if you're Glinda, it's almost harder, which sounds dumb, because she's not doing all that much. But while Elphie has fun around the stage, react to everything she does. Be concered when she starts going crazy, like with the "you can't pull me down", and be sweet and tender during the part where you guys sing together. I would also choose What is this feeling or Popular (Popular lets Glinda have all the fun :) ) but since you can't, make the best of Defying Gravity. Beautiful song, and lots of great acting that can be brought out of it. Good luck! :cheer2:

I found google video. If you scroll to about 53 seconds defying gravity begins...then the song at like 2:38...its the actualy Broadway show...so you could base it off of that.

oh! And I did not record the video or support the act of recording a Broadway play in anyway. I just thought the young lady could use it as education material for now :) .

I couldn't get it to work, but I have the same advice as tinkerbelle 22. I saw the show, and "G(a)linda" did a lot with her part in that song. just do what feels right to you

aww thankyou all very much! i took what you said to heart and bravely tried it. turns out that he loved it and didnt think we could do that. normally i wouldve loved to do a bigger song with more parts for me too, but that class is full of these hypocritic people, who dont make fun of you to your face, but they just adore emberassing you. my darling elphie had fun with those and directed her "and nobody in all of oz, no wizard that there is or was is ever gonna bring me down" lines to them. which i found was funny XD.

anyway, my teacher asked us if we'd do another one again for another project. id love to do popular, but i dunno..what is this feeling sounds good too ^^ we'll see

thankyou all so very much!
