We have always done just WDW but now that our girls are older, want to mix in Universal. We have always stayed on-site at WDW but have no idea on what do at Universal. Any suggestions on where to stay for a family of 4 with two girls, 11 and 7?

Thanks, in advance, for all of your help!

Our family has been to the Hard Rock Hotel (2003) and the Royal Pacific (2004). Both "on-site" properties. You enjoy FOTL at both parks. No waiting (or very little)
I believe the kids will enjoy the HRH more. Rock-n-Roll theme. Their pool has a water slide. But you can access any Univ. Orlando property pool while staying. Only a 5 minute walk to Universal Studios entrance. If available buy the 5 day unlimited access passes. It's the best deal. Similar to hopper passes. Come and go as you please.
We also enjoyed Royal Pac. last year. Only my wife and daughter (19) went on this trip. 1930's something theme. Nice pool too.
All in all you should enjoy any of the three USO hotels.

Good Luck !
