We are going to Disney in August/September for 7 days. I am *so* overwhelmed at planning this vacation. We are on the Disney Dining Plan (free). Where are the "gotta go to" places - Also, it's me and my son going with my parents. I was thinking of making them reservations one night at a nice place just the two of them and maybe that day I would do a character breakfast or dinner with ds. Where would be a good place for them to go - and where is the best Charachter place that would only use one credit. I've heard Crystal Palace, but would like some opinions! Thanks so much for any help! I've got a notebook to plan out this whole thing - my mother is calling me "Clark Griswold" :rotfl2:

If it helps at all, we are staying at the Coronado Springs.

Some really good ones are Beaches and Cream, Spoodles, Cape May Cafe, Ohanas, Kona Cafe, and Sci-Fi Dine in Theater. For your parents, something fancy like Yachtsman Steakhouse or Victoria and Albert's might be a good idea. Both Crystal Palace and Chef Mickeys get fabulous reviews. The worst character meal is at Liberty Tree Tavern, where you eat with the woodland friends of Pocahontas.

For table service I wouldn't miss Ohana (Poly) or Boma (AKL) on any trip :)

Other favorites of mine are Kona Cafe (Poly - breakfast or dinner); San Angel Inn (Epcot) and Boatwrights (breakfast). These are kind of casual table service places.

Jiko (AKL) is excellent for an upscale dinner.

For counter service I like Earl of Sandwich (DDD), Columbia Harbor House (MK) and Flame Tree BBQ (AK).

I recently attended the character dinner at Crystal Palace and really liked it too.

We were just there in January and have a new favorite.

Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge. Great setting and great fun for the family! We took a boat over from MK to WL then after dinner hopped on a bus to Ft. Wilderness for the campfire program.

Columbia Harbor House in Magic Kingdom is one of our favorite Counter Service meals.

Rainforest Cafe is unique if you've never done it before.

As far as upscale, Artist's Point at Wilderness Lodge is nice. Also, we really enjoyed La Cellier at Canada in Epcot.

Can't speak from personal experience on character meals, but I have heard good things about Chef Mickey's from our neighbors.

My boys loved Whispering Canyon and Chef Mickey's. We're returning to both on our upcoming trip in July. Both are very Disney in different but fun ways.
